The Beatles have been number one in Japan before I believe. Their singles compilation "1" sold like 1,950,000 in Japan alone.

Honestly, I had never heard of Taylor Swift before The Kanye West Incident.

The real test goes thusly: How many people will remember Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, Lady Gaga or Beyonce 50 years from now?
My guess is about 200 total. Then the songs will come on the oldies station and we'll all be like "Dayum, I rememba thiz shit, who done this record again?" Then the DJ will say "That was Taylor Swift with "insert song name here"" and we'll be like "Who?"
Fuck the Beatles and their dumb shit haircuts.
That's about as likely as me playing by somebody elses rules, which I would never do. I only play by my own rules, nobody elses...not even my own.
Now we're talking about Lady GaGa?
Jesus Christ, why did I come back here? Lady GaGa is hilarious but at this point she's Alanis fuckin' Morrissette. She can't even come close to a band like REM, much less a U2, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Elvis Pressley, or The Beatles (ranked in order of influence by yours truly).

It's much worse than that, Alanis Morrisette's legacy (such as it is) will be dozens of times longer and more important than Lady Gaga's, and that ain't sayin' much me boy. Personally I add Metallica to your list, because I'm also a metal guy and they did the big thing for metal back in the 80's (Yes I do believe they had a bigger impact than Black Sabbath). Don't worry about the kids, let's talk about how seriously sad the lyrics of Rocky Raccoon are if you actually listen. Man that song is a bummer, but still very good.

The Jonas Brothers don't have great radio play though. Taylor, Beyonce and GaGa get some of the most airplay in 2009.
Reputation proceeds me, they told you I'm crazy, I swear I don't love the drama it loves me <3
BUY TAYLOR'S NEW ALBUM REPUTATION!!

Seriously. I agree and I'm not trying to convince anyone at all.. So whatever. I'm just saying based on todays standards she is easily as popular as they were back in the 1960's and its now 2009.. Almost 40 years ago, music changes, everything changes. |
The beatles are an international band, taylor swift is big in the U.S, everywhere else..
I know you like her, she is so sweet, and a very good artist in the country world aspect, but I don't believe she is even close to the beatles, considering she only has 2-3 very big songs..
