LittleBigPlanet, most critically acclaimed and innovative platforming game in many many years. 95 Metacritic, receiver of many GOTY awards.

It was only a year since the last one(Super Mario Galaxy) and the release of Little Big Planet.

While Super Mario Galaxy is an amazing and stellar game as well, it doesn't do anywhere remotely close to what LBP did in terms of innovation. And its a 3d adventure game with platforming, it's a different genre.

You didn't specify into sectioned genres of platforming in your post. As for Little Big Planet being innovative, that is arguable. There have been tons of games with much more level of user creation. It is innovative in the same sense as motion controller, it was brought to the mainstream. Imo that is just as innovative, since you are innovating the implementation. Having said all of this, Super Mario Galaxy also brought just as many innovations of equal value. The gravity aspect is just one example. So I think it fits the label well.

I think the issue here is more your own narrow views than the consoles offerings.

The PS3 is the most diverse system when it comes to AAA games. Yes, there are shooters, but why should there not be? It's a gamer favorite for a reason, just like with all forms of media. Why is there lots of war / action movies? war / action novels? Same reason. We love adrenaline. It makes us feel alive, FPS games are good at this.

But that's not nearly all the PS3 has to offer. It has a stellar lineup of titles from all sorts of genres. To name a few;

LittleBigPlanet, most critically acclaimed and innovative platforming game in many many years. 95 Metacritic, receiver of many GOTY awards.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Reviews are mostly down due to this being a demo. Do not misunderstand them. There is a AAA racing game here, its just not much of one. at 29.99 though, thats a great deal.

Fifa Soccer 10 Best soccer game ever created. Nothing else to say really.

Batman: Arkham Asylum: Amazing game. I know there is violence, but then again, there is violence in the wii's best game Twilight Princess. :P

Rock Band & Rockband 2: Nothing needed here.

Ratchet and Clank: Future Series, Incredibly cute AWESOME 3d platformers, arguably the best ever made.

MLB 09: The show, best baseball game ever made.

WipEout: Super awesome arcade racer.

Demon's Souls: While this is a violent game, it is the single best 3rd person adventure/rpg game in many many years. If you like rpgs and haven't played this, you are hurting yourself.

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger: Anime styled fighter

Flower: Amazing artistic game involving flowers :P

And many many more.

Trine, Motorstorm, PixelJunk, inFAMOUS, Critter Crunch, Shatter, SuperStardust HD and of course

Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4. While both of these involve guns, they are third person adventure games, and absolutely phenomenal ones too, the best ever made.

Don't judge a platform by a few games.

The PS3 only has Resistance 1, Killzone 2, Cod 4 and Modern Warfare 2 as "AAA" Shooters. Resistance 2 needs some work IMO.

See that's the problem with me as well. I don't care about most of the games you posted, and some that I just didn't like at all. I'll be getting uncharted 2 and maybe try MGS4 in the future. My favorite genre is platformers, so I tried LittleBigPlanet and was bored out of my mind. I played older R&C games and they were just OK. I don't get why these are so popular.

Then I guess they are just not for you. The older Ratchet and clank games are up there with super mario 64 for awesomeness. I suppose you just let your nostalgia get the best of you.

wow >_>, well guess what? its what the wii gets, nintendo brought in a new consumer into the gamer world, that consumer is the casual gamer, or the not usually gamer types, they need to make games that fit to that, and all those games are not going to get AAA reviews >_>, i love my wii but i havent played it because nintendo really hasnt been supporting the type of games i love, mario galaxy the conduit madworld and no more heroes and SSBB and zelda all came out already, theres not much left...atleast until 2010 =p

Yeah, everybody has their own opinions I guess. And I wasn't crazy about mario 64 either. I guess I'm just getting picky.

I think I just like reliving my childhood. But 2D sidescrolling seems to only be done well on the Wii.

Muramasa/ NSMB Wii / LostWinds / Nyxquest / All the Metroid VC Games  and all the Shooters.

You can't compare the AAA sidescrolling game here to anywhere else and please no one talk about Shadow Complex or Trine or other 2d garbage. Shadow complex is decent, but with all its razzle dazzle graphics it still lacks any sort of charm above any metroid game. The added functionality of the wiimote on 2D platformers on wii trumps

For Super Mario Galaxy, how about IR implemenation and motion controls? Well an example of a game that released a few months before LBP than had User Generated Content is N+. Please reread my post though, I never said more, I said "more level" or shall I refined that, "More Freedom", which includes every PC game. Remember, we are discussing innovation, having "more" of something isn't in value. Little Big Planet's innovation is the ease of accesibility it allowed to access this content.

The motion control in super mario galaxy added nothing to the game. It would be just as good without it.

And still, you have not provided a game which offers anything near what LBP does. N+ cannot even begin to touch it.

LBP is quiet possibly the single biggest step forward in video game design for platformers we've seen since they emerged into existance.

It also offers more expression, ceativity and design aesthetics than any other game ever made.

Still waiting, home console. The PC is out of the question. It's an absolute joke to offer UGC on the PC. we're talking about home consoles here.
