If Suda51 can't make this fun with a gamepad, he's a poor game designer. He can't use the gamepad as an excuse. The gamepad didn't stop the many hack n slash games throughout history from being fun.

Except they aren't making a brand new game designed for the gamepad. They are porting one designed for the Wiimote. Do you really think it is possible without reworking the game?

How would it have to be a brand new game? You could keep the same story and what not. Just tweak things around so that the gameplay is actually suited for the controller. Similar to how game devs regularly design FPS games with the mouse/keyboard in mind for the PC and the controller in mind for PS360 at the same time (ie. Call of Duty games). It's no different from that.

Yes you can tweak it, but it isn't going to be as good as the Hack N Slash games created specifically for the controller of which you were comparing it too. Most of No More Heroes fun comes from the Wii Mote.

Wait so is this a (enhanced) port or a totaly new game?
I was just thinking of buying NMH few days ago.

Enhanced port. You can get No More Heroes for as low as $15, just get it.

Hmm, would it be worth getting NMH now? Its pretty cheap (like 15-20€) and I wouldn't mind another game for my Wii.

Hack n Slash games incorporate finishers/special moves. They may incorporate grappling moves at times. I don't see why it has to be an issue.

I'll laugh and shed a tear simultaneously if the PS3 or 360 version outsells the Wii version. That would basically kill any and all "quality 3rd party games sell well on Wii" argument there ever was if two consoles with half the installed base sold more of the ported version.

Do you actually see this as a possibility, though? I doubt even the combined sales will get close.

I just played the game a bit on a friend's console, and honestly, I can't see the game being enjoyable without motion. It's what makes the combat so awesome, especially the wrestling moves. It's one of the few games in which I've always exaggerated the motions, because I get so into it. Hopefully they'll get the HD solutions working on this?

It seems rather pointless either way to me, if it depends on motion controls so badly then its a bad idea to port it. If it turns out that it can sell without them on the HD brothers the developer suddenly loses incentive to make the Wii the lead platform on future releases. Of course, if the game does poorly on PS360, a point will have been made for Nintendo but money will have been lost (possibly) for the developer.

I just don't see the point in this from any perspective!

It is an issue, because No More Heroes would be an average game without Motion Controls. It is because of the great controls(in 2008 they were great, now they are ok), as well as its style that it was acclaimed so highly.

I predict the sales of Heroes' Paradise will be less than Modern Warfare Reflex but greater than Chinatown Wars PSP.
I predict the bad sales will be blamed on it being a shitty Wii game instead of it being a late port of an amazing Wii game.
I predict that despite the "less than stellar" sales, Suda51 will be happy to have reached a few new fans, and he will throw a kickass party.
I predict the Wii-exlusive sequel will be quite bodacious and I will absorb fun times from playing it.

it's far from a shitty game, and its far from an amazing Wii game. Its average, the style is the only thing that saves the game from being shitty.

The style is very very refreshing in today's world of bald space marines in brown and grey environments.  Suda51 dumps loads of style and personality into his games, and that's why I love him!

while that is true, i don't see a reason why you should care, since you only own nintendo consoles, and those type of games rarely come to them. Yes, Suda51 games have lots of style, but they have shitty gameplay.

I happen to have a RROD'd 360 with no controllers and no games!  I might fix it when I can afford it!  And I have a PS1 with 2 borrowed games!

I don't love NMH just for the personality.  I actually really loved the gameplay due to the use of the motion controls.  It was the first hack'n'slash I've enjoyed since Diablo and roguelikes.  I'm not really into God of War, Devil May Cry, and Dynasty Warriors, but I've tried them all.

I may only collect Nintendo games, but I play much more than that, so I'm also trying to avoid bald space marines at every turn.  If money was no object I'd definitely buy any console with a Katamari game on it.

Whats so great about swishing a wii mote (either up, down, left, right) a gazillion times throughout the 15+ hours of the game to do a finisher? (that is bound to get old) Or using a mote + chuk to do the occassional wrestling move? Or to tilt the mote to aim? I don't get it. It's a novelty compared to the standard gamepad play but doesn't it get old? This isn't a Wii bashing comment. I think the Wii is a good console. I just don't understand how this kind of control scheme is all that great when many other Wii games have used the wiimote to great effect (ie. Tiger Woods 10. I don't even like golf but it looks intriguing on wii motion plus).

It is better then button mashing imo. To those of us who chose the Wii due to its control scheme, it  great. Really that and the style of the game were the only good qualities I thought it had. No More Heroes 2 on the other hand, seems to have some more varied gameplay, that would allow it to transition better on the hd consoles.
