Forums - Gaming - ShowDown: Last Gen vs Current Gen

Ok, this isn't a breakdown of sales or anything of the like. This is a matter of opinions, likes and dislikes. This is a question of if the games of this generation surpass their previous generations incarnations. So have at it. Is MGS4 better than MGS3? Brawl better than Melee? DMC4 better than DMC3, RE5 better than 4, MKWii better than double dash, Galaxy better than Sunshine? Halo 3 better than 2? GTAIV better than San Andreas? Etc.

Many of the games I haven't played so I'd like to hear what gamers think. I don't care what console preference you have. And the games aren't limited to just the ones I've listed that was just used to get the ball rolling. And also what about upcoming games? What do these games need to do to surpass their last gen counterparts?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

MGS4>MGS3
DMC4

This generation is better than the last in my opinion. Why? It's lasting longer and providing better quality games.

Most last gen ones were superior to current gen sequels. A lot of them had more depth and didn't cater to casuals.

Morrowind > Oblivion
RE4 > RE5
DMC3 > DMC4
SA > GTA IV
MGS3 = MGS4

I sorta missed last gen

But this one's only over when it's over

Lemme see here...

Metroid Prime (GCN) > Corruption (Wii) > Echoes (GCN)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) > Sunshine (GCN)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) > Melee (GCN)
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Wii) > Path of Radiance (GCN)
Mario Kart Wii (Wiii) > Double Dash!! (GCN)
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (DS) > Ruby/Emerald (GBA)
Resident Evil 4 (GCN) > Resident Evil 5 (PS3)
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GCN) > Twilight Princess (Wii)
Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door (GCN) > Super Paper Mario (Wii)
Mario & Luigi: SuperStar Saga (GBA) > Bowser's Inside Story (DS) > Partners in Time (DS)
Mario Kart DS (DS) > Super Circuit (GBA)
Sonic Advance series (GBA) > Sonic Rush series (DS)
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (DS) > Dawn of Sorrow (DS) > Circle of the Moon (GBA) > Portriat of Ruin (DS)
Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii) > Animal Crossing (GCN)

Although this generation has seen some disappointing sequels in the form of RE5 and GTA 4 (imo), the addition of brilliant new IP's such as Uncharted, Gears of War and Dead Space makes this generation superior to the previous one.
