Onna don't worry about a lack of BC. We all know it is a matter of time before Sony re-instates BC in a future SKU.

From what I've heard Sony sold the factory that made the chips and which made it possible to have PS2 BC, or something like that, could be wrong. So I doubt we'll ever get to see BC back in the PS3 consoles, it would be a wise thing to do though...

Sony were just desperate to get a console out there below $400 and cutting BC was the only way to do it. I don't like the PS3 much but its not going to die. Sales will stabilize and when they do you will see another BC SKU, probably at a much cheaper price point, and it will be out when the good games are out next year. I don't know if Sony sold their BC chip factory, but they definitely just sold their CELL factory to Toshiba, so clearly it doesn't matter who makes chips, as long as they are available.

Yeah but the thing is, what if it doesn't? Then I need to sell my 60+ JP PS2 collection as my PS3 can't play them and with a PS2 they look horrible on my TV. If I buy now the PS3 and they do come with a new SKU with BC then I'll kick myself for not waiting any longer... Either way it sucks both ways. If there were only one person out there who could tell me for 100% sure BC will never come back or it will... *sigh*.

But er... at least you Selnor don't have to worry about buying a WII, WII will have plenty games to enjoy you in the upcoming months. Personally I'd recommend: Zelda, Trauma Center, Zack & Wiki, Fire Emblem (when it releases in the US), Raving Rabbids (+2), Excite Truck, Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4 (not a fan myself but many people are enthusiastic about this game)....

Why do you want a JP PS3 anyway? just best with the language? PS3 is region free right?

It's not region free for PS2/PS1 games (nor movies), only PS3 games are region free.

Yeah, I don't blame you Onna. If you know for a fact that you are going to want a PS3 at some point, but really need the PS2 BC, then you really have to buy it now because there is a good chance the PS3 won't have PS2 BC at all within a year.
