Forums - Microsoft - The halo franchise going downhill?

It just seems to me as though the Halo name is being oversaturated. It still has the power to sell millions, but it seems as though there will never be an installment that sells as much as halo 3 did. This could either be because halo 3 sold an enourmous feat for a game, that people have moved onto other game series, or both.

It is obvious halo will remain a microsoft staple, but how long until it's importance is highly diminished? I know that I have just gotten personally tired of the graphical style. To me it's just aged to be a little kiddy. Games like CoD showcase their realism, and I hope halo could do that one day.

So, do you think the halo name is finally starting to see the effects of oversaturation? Have you gotten tired of halo personally?

Nah, Halo is awesome. I enjoyed what they did with ODST, and I'm looking forward to Reach.

Oh dear God, this is going to end badly.

Was that leaked screenshot of 'Reach' real?
If so it looks like it's going to be the same exact look of ODST.

You would think they could have improved the look a bit since it's been in developement for a while.

I think it's too early to tell. It all depends on how Halo: Reach performs. If it performs worse than Halo 3, then one thing's clear: Call of Duty stole its thunder.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Well HW/ODST were never going to sell as well as Halo 3.

We wont know how it's doing until Reach is released though, so it's pretty pointless asking IMO.

neither odst nor halo wars was "big" in the sense that halo 3 was. you will know when the next big Halo is when you see another gigantic advertising campaign like the one for halo 3.

Ermm no not really. Halo will never go for the realistic look, because its art style is one of the the things that makes it Halo. Realism is good and all, but not every game has to follow that route, and I'm glad that it doesn't. Halo will always be the staple for the Xbox just like Mario is for Nintendo, and it will always have its fans that follow it anywhere. It's certainly not as oversaturated as other franchises are, and I think Halo: Reach will be the last one for the 360 (and for a few years).

Oh and PS: Halo: Reach is gonna rock my socks off!

I'm assuming they were real. But even though they were blurry-ass WIP pics, you could still see a notable step up in the quality of the graphics, especially with the gun models.

No idea if Reach will be a graphical heavy-hitter - I doubt it, to be honest, if Halo 3 is anything to go by - but I'm expecting it to be a pretty game, regardless.
