ATI Radeon HD 5970 Graphics Card Will Cost $599.99 Shipped!

Many of our readers have been curious about the price tag that will be on the upcoming ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card, but that question was answered over the weekend. ZipZoomFly seems to have jumped the gun and published pricing information on the HIS H597F1GDG Radeon HD 5970 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express x16 (2.0v) Video Card. It looks like $599.99 is what you will need to hand over to own one of the dual-GPU powered single slot graphics cards. NVIDIA's GT300 powered Fermi graphics card are expected to arrive in Q1 of next year, so the Radeon HD 5970 will be the fastest graphics card around! The card appears to have 2GB of GDDR5 memory and should be launching this week if the rumors are true.

Not much of a surprise, really.  We all knew it would cost an arm and a leg.

Radeon HD 5970, or launch-day PS3?  I think I'd still go for the video card...

I don't even want to imagine how much power this thing sucks in.

I'm fine with my Geforce 8600 GS for now :P

For how much power they have, the 5xxxs are actually quite power efficient.

A 5870 uses just a little more than a 4870 and is about twice as powerful, IIRC.

I fought it was like 60-70% more powerful. Rufly the same ratio as 4870 had to the 3870.

It is actually rather cheap. Nvidia, for instance, usually releases their high-end single video cards for $649.

You're going to need 3 jobs. 2 jobs just for the GPU, and the 3rd job to build the rest of the computer to utilize the graphics card lol jk. Graphics card are always pricey so im not really surprised.

Considering single card costs $300 is anyone suprised ?

Well, high-end ones, at least.

There are plenty of sub-100$ ones that are perfectly decent as well.

When Nvidia brings out some competition these prices will fall. Their costs aren't much more than previous generations; with the 4850 profitable at $100 then the 5870 at $379 is making a lot of money.

So, Nvidia, where is Fermi? I want AMD's prices down!
