1) That was the least important of my points so I'm not gonna argue it much, don't know why I put it as number 1. But it seems odd that the average reviews for movies and music are so much lower than for video games...

2) I have no proof? It is industry standard to provide a review copy of a game for free to reviewers. As for giving money, I have no proof, but it is not a crime, which is appaling. Giving consoles away to reviewers happens, Penny arcade get quite a few consoles gifted to them

3) That is one of the silliest things I have ever heard. Movie and music reviewers accept that they are part of a service industry. They tell us if a certain movie or song will be liked by a particular group of people. In exchange, we pay with page views. Video game reviewers see themselves as the sole arbiters of truth and quality. How can a review (subjective) tell you if a game is good (objective)?

Your #2 makes no sense. Are movie critics getting bribed by getting free screenings of movies?

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I never claimed they were great, I've already explained that they routinely take bribes. But they're much better than video game reviewers. Infact, just go here http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/ and you will see what it is like when reviewers act like responsible adults, rather than spoilt children

My biggest issue is probably the numeric scores. Eliminating them and switching to a simpler system would be my recommendation. Would the reviewer buy it? Why? Why not? In addition to this, revisiting the game after 3 or 6 months for updated impressions would be useful. Is there still an active multiplayer community? Did the initial hype of the game rub off on the reviewer, has his/her opinion changed? This would be good especially for those who haven't picked the game up yet.

Really though, I'd go for anything that made gamers stop using "AAA" or non "AAA" classifications.

The review system ? Broken ? Yeah right...

Think "hordes of frustrated fanboys" instead, that actually would explain a lot.

It would even explain why so many developers suddenly got "lazy".

God i hate fanboys, almost as much as they hate facts

what are you talking about ?

Even the NYTIMES  have started to review games now. You are the one who take reviews too seriously and ignore the reason they are there. You clearly believe there is a bias, but only when the score doesnt match what you want.

how many of us cry about IGN, but the minute they give a game we like a 9, we are all happy again.

OMG....I agree with you 100% on the AAA Shit.. there is NO fuckin such thing as AAA grade..AAA is a reference to the budget/production values that goes into a game!!! AAA is NOT a grade..is so somebody tell wat makes a BBB or CCC game

The NYTimes producing reviews makes it acceptable for all the other reviewers to be immature? Cool...

So because I see reviews asa guide to whether people should buy games, as opposed to an analysis of their objective quality, I am ignoring the reason why they are there?

'we'? don't you lump me in with you. It's time for you to put up or shut up, search through every one of my 4000 posts (or will this be 3999?) and find one single time, in which I praised IGN after they gave a good review to a game I like. Actually, that's a waste of time, I know there isn't one. Lets broaden the parameters, if you can find one single time in which I praised any game reviewer after they gave a good score to a game I like, and at another date, insult that same review source. Note, don't get all excited when you find that I praise Famitsu, Penny Arcade, Vgchartz and zero punctuation reviews, because you will not find a time when I refer to them as bad reviewers

I don't need to search.

you think FAMITSU is good at reviews ? lol

Zero Punctuation is as reliable as The Onion

VGCHARTZ is new and sometimes very harsh when scoring.

IGN is still the most respected site when it comes to reviews, their score means more than any other site I can think of, you just don't like them because they have given certain games you like low score, that's all.

We are done talking.
