Wait untill you see the numbers next week.
Demon's Souls and Lost Odyssey.
Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!
Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Lost Odyssey doesn't count because LO was a hyped game before it came out. Borderlands and Demon's Souls weren't and many people thought they would go under the radar. Demon's Souls sales show that Atlus is indeed a growing publisher.
Speaking of Atlus, Persona 3 was also a surprise hit in America
Both the original version and FES edition sold more in America than Japan

I just thought it'd do better in Japan.

Considering that it was on the 360, and that several RPGs have been more popular in America than Japan, it's not surprising at all. Couple that with a huge advertising campaign in the west, and it's pretty easy to see why it was successful.
A surprise hit in America would be Call of Duty 4. We knew it would be big, but no one could have predicted to what extent.

Would Persona 4 count as well? Considering that it was released when many massively hyped games were coming out, it sold quite well.

The thing is that Persona series shows to already have a consolidated fan base in US. I'm one of them, there are three franchises that are system seller to me, MGS, FF and Persona.
