It is really hard for me to wrap my mind around how the catholic church can live in such absurd extravagant wealth while pushing the teachings of a man that at every opprotunity said to sell your belongings and give them to the poor. But hey, I mean they give some money to africa in exchange for them not using sexual protection. So they are square with Jesus teachings, right?

I don't really see the point of this... sure we can laugh at a group being extremely wealthy and not giving up all that wealth... but can we really say that when we ourselves are ridiculously rich compared to the rest of the world?

Yeah, those Christians are upitty and tighty, thank god my parents didn't push any religion on me (<- lol).

But I don't get how you took a comedy video and tried to make it serious, just like those commentors did.

God, I love Sarah Silverman.

While this is definitely true, she obviously focuses on the hypocrisy of her statements in the beginning of the video. One big difference though is that the catholic church is a singular organization of ridiculous wealth that could potentially end world hunger with it's wealth alone if it wasn't so busy buying staffs made of gold, and building ridiculously ornate buildings for the glory of god.

I can give up my TV and feed an individual, they can give up considerably more and feed a billion.

I don't take it "SERIOUSLY" because I realize that the technicalities of trying to sell the vatican are not so cut and dry. The housing market is bad enough, let alone the city purchasing market. Merely that she makes a good point. For a group that preaches the teachings of a man that didn't even have a home, they seem pretty intent on making sure they've got ample swag.

Yeah, I don't think the Catholic church is to blame, their teachings are to feed the poor. I think it's the fault of greedy individuals at the top of who exploit their position of power for personal wealth and luxury... Maybe, I dunno.

But that means you not only have to take the rights of the Catholic Church, but of the people who donated money specificly to the Church. You cannot force people to donate money to something they didn't want to (it'll be like if you wanted to donate to the WHO, but it went to the Salvation Army or something). And just having money alone won't fix world hunger.

I never knew that Christianity preached asceticism (sp?)... there's a shit load of sects in the Indian religions that preach different degrees of asceticism. Why is Catholicism all of a sudden hypocrtical for not giving up ALL their wealth?
