Dark_Alex didn't join Sony as far as I know. He continued releasing new CFW even after the offer from Sony.

Anyways, to people worried only about piracy. Custom FW gives you great homebrew functionality and the emulators are great.

You also know that for $20 you can pirate all you want on a DSL/DSi as well? It is super easy there as well.
