Forums - Sony - Would the PS3 have been better if it came out before the PSP?

Considering how much of the PS3 menu is based on a handheld that came out over a year before it you start to wonder.  The XMB works fine but this process always seemed backwards to me. So what are everyones thoughts on this and of course if just for a superior format for the menu system would it be better for PS4 to come out first before PSP2.

I prefer the simplicity of the XMB to just about every console menu system ever conceived.

I hope it sticks around.  Simplicity, and quick navigation to what you want to do, is kinda the point of a console, in my book.

SONY were using the XMB before the PSP released in TV's and the PSX [not the PS1] had it. I believe they were using it in other things as well like phones.

EDIT: Just looked it up. It was on the PSX first. Then PSP, followed by the Bravia line and WEGA tv's. I believe the PS3 was later on but I'm not sure if Cybershot camera's and Ericsson's had it before the PS3.

None the less, SCE didn't design the XMB solely for gaming platforms. So it wouldn't make much of a difference.

I forgot about the PSX. It just felt weird seeing the PS3 play catchup to the PSP. The PSP also having to find a way to be compatabe to both PS2 & PS3 seemed odd to me.
