You dont pirate because you can, although it helps :) But you do it because you dont feel like spending money on shitty games. But i mean, take certain MMOs and RTS like WoW and Heroes of Newerth, where you are connected via your account. Everything is measured by your account. You can't really pirate them because then the game loses its value and purpose.

But for a "meh" SP like MW2, people download it because they don't feel like spending money on a "meh" experience. Or Assassins Creed, also had a average SP that one can understand why people might want to pirate it.

But like i said previously. You can't just blame pirates, you have to look at Why they do it. Just like Movies and Music is pirated. Now theres iTunes, Spoitfy and Voddler on the way. So in this case where IW droped the bomb on PC gamers, obviously people of the PC gaming community will pirate the game before purchasing it, they've been waiting for 2 years, and a month before release they get sucker punched. If IW had released a Demo of the game, to showcase that their IWNet is a valid substitute for Dedicated servers and PB, PC gamers might have had a chance to adapt and find a way to make it work.

So sure, piracy might be a problem, but to put it all om piracy and not look to the real issue to why it exsists, is narrow minded and usually just a industry excuse to why they do certain things.

The only thing those pirates are ensuring is that PC will get less and less support and at some point games will only get console releases...

I doubt it. It might lose support as far as updates goes. But no piracy in the world will ensure that pc games gets terminated.

I'm not so sure....

If the games were console only most likely some of the people that used to play them on PC would make the jump to consoles...( lets face it a lot of current console owners, myself included moved to console for that reason, because a lot of console games aren't available on the PC these days).

Doesn't mean PC won't get games anymore but it might stop getting the console cross platforms titles...( not that releasing on the PC costs much, most consoles games are actually developed on the PC but PC piracy might eats on console game sales..)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I agree that if certain games only get a console release, more will buy a console, hence why Exclusives are so important. But there's soo many games on PC that performs better, gets free updates (TF2 for example), and the community among PC based games are better than any console released so far.

So i think that if one developer decides to go Console only, another will be there to harvest all the free market shares. Like MW2 and BF:BC2 for example. DICE went out a day or two after IW droped the IWNet and no dedicated servers, to say that they have always done dedicated servers and understand the importance of it, i.e..IW just made DICE a whole lot of money.

I think many companies will watch how well MW2, BF:BC2 and Rage do, but they will be more interested into how many people purchase those games on the PC rather than how many play it...

PC gaming will never die. It will suffer and it is suffering but there will always be PC gaming. The PC, being an open platform, is still the platform of choice for indie developers. If you want to get on XBL, PSN, Wiiware, etc. you need to jump through a lot of hoops. Whereas on the PC you don't have to go through those hoops. And while there is concern for piracy, I have seen some indie PC devs successfully prevent piracy 100%. The World of MMA games for eg. to my knowledge have not been cracked yet. It uses the e-license authorization system and while e-license games have been cracked before, these cracks can only be used on a game-by-game basis. One crack doesn't fit for all e-license games. No one has bothered to crack World of MMA yet (probably because it's not very popular) so as of now there's zero piracy for it.

I suppose Steam might be another option for indie developers but I'm not too familiar with how the Steam cracks work. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe with Steam it's a one crack fits all type of situation. If you crack steam, you can play all the steam games for free. If that's the case, I wouldn't recommend Steam for indie devs. Go with e-license. If your game is popular enough that people feel motivated to crack it, then maybe you should consider moving to XBLA or PSN if you can (Wiiware games can be pirated easily so that's not an option).

I also give out free hacks for MW2 PC version.

If you guys want to talk about pirating stuff or offer cracks, find another site, this ain't pirate bay or whatever....

not bad, and you should realize that the 360 version is the one that hurts activision the most. The PC version should have broken even and since it used Valve's Steamworks for their upgrade system was really cheap to setup a basic online structure as it has.

So in the end, the PC version has the most pirated numbers, but the least cost as Activision has to pay Microsoft for its use of XBL and each sell lost is less money Activision has to pay..

PC gaming is better than console gaming. Always.     We are Anonymous, We are Legion    Kick-ass interview   Great Flash Series Here    Anime Ratings     Make and Play Please

And you think Valve is letting them use Steamworks at no cost ?

Valve isn't a non profit organization. They get their cut of everything related to Steam..
