PC gaming will never die. It will suffer and it is suffering but there will always be PC gaming. The PC, being an open platform, is still the platform of choice for indie developers. If you want to get on XBL, PSN, Wiiware, etc. you need to jump through a lot of hoops. Whereas on the PC you don't have to go through those hoops. And while there is concern for piracy, I have seen some indie PC devs successfully prevent piracy 100%. The World of MMA games for eg. to my knowledge have not been cracked yet. It uses the e-license authorization system and while e-license games have been cracked before, these cracks can only be used on a game-by-game basis. One crack doesn't fit for all e-license games. No one has bothered to crack World of MMA yet (probably because it's not very popular) so as of now there's zero piracy for it.
I suppose Steam might be another option for indie developers but I'm not too familiar with how the Steam cracks work. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe with Steam it's a one crack fits all type of situation. If you crack steam, you can play all the steam games for free. If that's the case, I wouldn't recommend Steam for indie devs. Go with e-license. If your game is popular enough that people feel motivated to crack it, then maybe you should consider moving to XBLA or PSN if you can (Wiiware games can be pirated easily so that's not an option).
