Forums - Nintendo - Will Dragon Quest X Still Come to Wii

IT seems as though Square-Enix's support for Wii has been schizophrenic as of late.  Their most successful title on the console is Dragon Quest Swords, a so-so spinoff of a famous franchise.  But their other titles weren't so fortunate.  Even the recently released Crystal Bearers doesn't seem to be doing much to change that so far (although I do expect the title to sell considerably better in America).

The question is, what's next from Square-Enix for Wii?

So far, it seems like the only one is Dragon Quest X, which is far more high-profile than these other titles.  But that's just it--will this game still come to the Wii?

There are reasons for me to be leaning toward yes.  First of all, Nintendo and S-E have experienced success with the franchise on the DS, aside from the aforementioned DQS for Wii.  Furthermore, they have pledged to try to market the latest installment harder in the United States.  And the FF VC games are still coming.  So there's a reason why I think it will come to Wii still.

I'm only hoping that this message will calm down anyone who is screaming that "DQX will jump Wii" just because of the latest so-so performance from Square-Enix with CB.

i think that it will

It will. Probably will be later ported to the PSP or something but it will definitely come to Wii if they say it will.

Pixel Art can be fun.

That's good to know. The question is, what other titles will Square-Enix release on Wii? The recent mediocre opening day sales of Crystal Bearers (which is more likely to have a far better reception in America) is unfortunate but it should also serve as a wake-up call for Square-Enix. They seriously need to step up their game and give a hell of a better marketing support for their titles if they expect to have any other successes on the Wii.

Still, even with the recent success that PS3 is having, I don't see Square-Enix totally giving Wii the shaft. They still have other opportunities to cash in on the successful Dragon Quest Swords. Ports of Dragon Quest VII and VIII would be a viable way to bring in more of a "core" audience for the Wii, and likewise, even if we won't see a mainline FF on the system (not that I was expecting the Wii to receive one), they at least shouldn't drop the VC support. Those games do fine there.

Crystal Bearers sold 1/3 of the first shipment on day one. I think it performs as expected from Squenix.

Of course will Dragon Quest X be a Wii exclusive.

And I think Squenix has some other Wii titles in production.

You do?  People like trestes seem to think that S-E will ditch Wii after this, but I think he's being WAAAAAAAAY too pessimistic, as is everybody else on VGChartz.

FFCC:CB is a bomba in Japan, but it'll do well in the West.

The Wii Japanese market just needs a serious kick in the arse right now. Monster Hunter 3 did that but there was no follow up in time - as Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus probably sold to the existing fanbase initially.

Crystal Bearers' American success will probably offset its so-so numbers in Japan, although I do agree that the Wii market in Japan seriously needs a jumpstart.  This latest mediocre debut needs to provide a wake-up call for Nintendo and its third-party members to shake things up.  Yes, MH3 was a hit, but what next?

Tales of Graces -- This is very promising to be a hit.  IT's among the top pre-ordered games in Japan, and it'll certainly be a hit.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii -- Absolutely.  It's Mario, and Mario is a best-selling franchise in Japan.

Samurai Warriors 3 -- Difficult to say.  It HAS jumped up in preorders, but I think it'll be the least successful of the three.

Taiko 2 -- The first one was a hit, but will this do any better?

It will, but it will probably be released on PSP too.

Yes.

But I wanted a Final Fantasy VI remake for the DS...
