Forums - Nintendo - First NSMB.Wii commercials aired, must see!

They're only starting the commercials less than a week before the game's release?

Geez; and people wonder why Nintendo fails at marketing. They should have been starting to air these a month ago at least.

Marketing your game for a month before you launch it only makes sense if you are desparate to front load your sales.

These TV spots are how you can tell that Nintendo dropped the ball not adding and marketing online multiplayer for the game. Instead of having four people playing the game locally decked in Mushroom Kingdom themed rooms, they could have had four individual gamers sitting alone in four different rooms entering servers and starting a connection with friends. Maybe add in the process of typing in Friend Codes to really sell the product. Then show them all playing individually in their own rooms against one another.

Really it's how they should market all of their games. Online multiplayer is an industry standard and Nintendo needs to get that across, not only in their games, but in the marketing of their games.

As absurd as that actually sounded, don't forget they at least did it with two people...

I saw this commercial a couple of days ago. I can't wait to see what the first week sales will be.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

^A reason why Animal crossing flopped?

lol

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Most people don't care about online.

Local multiplayer has far more value, and it gives games far more opportunity for word of mouth. Online communities are largely closed spaces, even in terms of Wii. A local multiplayer focus is the only way phenomenons like Wii Sports can emerge.

So from a business perspective, there's no arguing. Local multiplayer is just better.
