The 360 gets the gift cards because retailers ordered too many for the holiday season, and are trying to clear inventory. A gift card is much better than a sale, because the item you purchase with the card probably only cost the store 50-70% of the gift card value anyway.
PS3s are moving faster than X360s, even with these kinds of promotions... hence, no gift card deals.

No, that's a pretty bias statement of "because rebates are usually focused on items that have trouble selling." Sure 360 isn't selling as well as PS3 at the moment, but that doesn't conclude to it "having trouble selling." It's all about what Microsoft and the company come to an agreement with. Sony can do the same, (and has done before) with PS3 promotions.... yet they're not doing it at the moment.

The 360 isn't having trouble selling. The big retailers over-predicted and over-ordered. Hence the apparent "deals". There's a difference.

Last I checked Microsoft was claiming they were not involved at all in the WallMart deal...
PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !
PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

just an unsubstatiated theory but I have a feeling a 360 price cut is comming and retailers know about it. remember all the fire sales that occured in the months leading up to the slim release?
I like how the M&S at Winter Olympics plus Gift Card price equals the M&S pricepoint plus $10 (the value of the card).

The 360 does seem to have an inventory problem as most retail stores that I visit still have encaps full of Pro's for sale.
Those are some pretty terrible deals....

Whats wrong with that logic? This is a well known tactics in retail.
Weather the 360 is falling into that category is debatable but I find nothing wrong with his statement.
