Forums - PC - Intel to pay $1.25 billion legal settlement to AMD

^Huh, I was not aware of that processor being so good. Is that a recent release? It's pretty sweet. At least a 50$ value over the next best thing.

Still, that value is only really seen on this processor. Everything below is comparatively priced, and in most cases intel performs better.

See, I still disagree with the last part.

Let's take some matchups from top to bottom, using performance figures from a neutral site, Tech Report.

X2 240 - $60; competitor E5300 is $70 and performs the same.
X3 425 - $79; competitor E7500 is $120 and performs a little better in single-thread apps but a lot worse in most multi-threaded ones.
X3 720 - $119; competitor E8400 is $168 and performs a little better in single-thread apps but a lot worse in most multi-threaded ones.
X4 620 - $99; competitor Q8200 is $150 and performs slightly better.
X4 940 - $165; competitor Q8400 is $170 and performs slightly worse, or Q9400 is $230 and performs the same.
X4 965 - $196; competitor i5 750 is $200 and performs better in general apps but worse in games.

And that isn't taking into account the often cheaper platform costs once you factor in RAM and the motherboard.

interesting stuff...

Intel and AMD had a cross license agreement since long time ago about 1970s
that's how AMD can use Intels technologies and vicecersa :)

AMD don't make good processors :\
They tend to overheat there is even an old video from a technology site that shows how intel survives fanless and AMD catches fire.

...because there are so many real world situations where a CPU would be fanless.

Funny you say that as I managed to overheat 2 AMD Athlon XP CPUs (both using stock fan and no overclocking). I played a lot of games, but other than that nothing. However, I reckon they've rectified this as I've run a single core 3500+ and am currently running a 3800+ X2 with no problems running top end games like Crysis.

Cheers for AMD!
