Forums - Sales - Do you believe sales are indicator of quality?

topic.

To a degree, yes.  As an absolute metric of quality?  Not in the slightest.

Not necessarily. BreakDown on Xbox is one of my favorite games of all time, but it slipped right under the radar.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Good game, first reply got it right, genius level blog...I expect no less.

I'd add that even the degree is relative to the genre and marketing of competition. It's like estimating the value of a house. First step is to find similar houses in the area and determine their value. Sales are like that. Relevant as an indicator when comparing similar properties, but not an absolute.

All quality is opinion. Sales are often a good indicator of popularity. Reviews aren't, and one man's opinion is the same as another man's opinion.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Quality may be a direct factor on occasion, but for the most part, it is less important than the following:

- Mainstream appeal
- Quality of advertisement
- Brand appeal / perceived image
- Nostalgia
