Forums - General - I can't stand these rude people on vg chartz

Lolita, it may be a different part of Canada you live in, but I know in the Western Provinces they definitely speak English first, and there may be a few who can speak french. And believe me, the people I knew from that area know english as well, if not better then I do.

My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.

Erm isn't that what I said? I said where I live the first language is French even though the province is in Canada. All the rest of Canada has English as the first language. Stupid I know. I wish it was English here too... French is too complicated and troublesome.

I'm late to the party, but still...

Maybe I mis-read what you wrote. :)  It was fairly early on a saturday morning when I did post.   I had assumed when you said that "here in Canada" that you were refering to the whole country, not just Quebec.  :)  My mistakes.

And yes, french is a pain to learn.  Give me German or Spanish any day of the week.

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

I'm not rude, am I? I don't know who this guy is, but it's unfortunate if someones being d-wads for no reason.
That kind of behaviour belongs on Gamespot forums, or Trollspot if you will...

Forums are very much a competitive exercise. I see your keybonics, and raise you proper english. You have to strengthen your vocabulary, and your grammar skills. Few things will bring down the ire of a web based community like a lengthy incoherent ramble. Call it elitist or arrogant, but its just common manners online. When you do not make a respectable effort to convey your thoughts in a thoroughly understandable manner people will take offense.

To get respect you need to be respectful of others who will read what you write. You need to slow down your typing. Check your spelling. Use proper punctuation. Periods, commas, and capitalization are critical for differentiation. Nobody is expecting great oratory. They are just expecting that you take the time to do a decent job.

You do not need a spell check to improve your grammar either. Honestly that can become quite a crutch. However if you dedicate just a few minutes each day to learning a few new words, and take the time to review the rules of grammar you can improve dramatically.

I am not sure what kind of schools everyone else went to, but had I spelled anything like what you have. I would have gotten detention on the spot, and not for just a day I would have spent weeks in detention. I would have had a tutor forced on to me, and I would have received additional homework until my writing was on par. Perhaps the schools I went to were better then most. However I find it hard to imagine any school intentionally letting a student do this miserably. Say what you like about standardized testing, but it does ensure that students get the basic skills they need.

Just my thoughts on the subject.

Sounds reasonable enough, but I've rarely come across eloquent people on web based forums...  I agree with you, though. What strikes me as odd on most forums is that those who speak english as their second language often write better english than those who speak it as a first language!
