Forums - Nintendo - Wii owners have been hyping the wrong game

Also - I believe The Conduit set the mark for what is to be expected from any FPS on the Wii, and in so doing had an effect on the development of any shooter in development at the time or later (including this port).

We hyped the right game at the time. You can now hype this one as well.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Heeeeeeeeeey i loved the conduit.. yes it was ovehyped way to much like its the second coming of Christ but its good, not excellent but good.. im also getting MW on wii even though i have the ps3 version, never played it much, i hate the analogue stick controls, im not use to it anymore

I could never really get into the conduit. I never finished the SP and the online just seemed bland, lots of empty halls and stairways. I've already put more time into COD4's online then I did the conduit's.

I myself am also guilty of this: hyping the wrong game. I wanted the best controls, I wanted an excellent online component, I wanted to shoot things with pin-point accuracy and it had to look good, too.

Yes, I was hyped for The Conduit, but instead, I should have been hyped for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex.

This game has everything that people were hyping The Conduit for: customizable controls (in fact much better than Conduit had), terrific online component (without huge glitches and lag, like in Conduit), enjoyable single player (without the boring levels in Conduit) and impressive visuals (without the bump mapping and bloom lightning in Conduit, unfortunately).

CoD: Modern Warfare Reflex is a much better game than The Conduit, and most people don't know it. To those who have read this: you are now educated! Forget about The Conduit, and get Modern Warfare for Wii. This game has the best controls and the best online in a Wii game yet.

And if you don't like to shoot games go play My Baby Petz you wuss.

What you ran into seems to be somewhat common among fans of a console.  They feel a need to hype an exclusive for their system and be biased for it.  Because Conduit was an exclusive, there was a desire to go gaga over it, and have the hope it would be a killer app to get FPS to see the light about the Wii.  Well, it looks like, if I trust what you wrote, it took an established title to bring a good FPS to the Wii.  The problem is that it is an older title that already came out for the 360 and PS3.  So, you are faced with a problem here, if you want to "pimp" your console.  You end up having to recommend a title that isn't exclusive, and thus of little value in system fanboy wars.

And this is why fanboy wars is not helpful for the industry.

About the controls: I remember a dev talking about a different aiming feel in MW:R, something "more alike to mouse aiming" and basically meant to be better than The Conduit's. Since I was curious about this, has anyone noticed anything different or do they feel like the usual tweakable bounding-box controls?

we've been telling you that conduit isn't that great.

You really have to stop and re-read a comment when someone is praising something for being "great for a wii game". From what I've seen, the game (mwr) looks really great. I was just expecting there to be voice chat.

I understand exclusives are hyped more than multiplatforms. Mostly rightly so, especially for Wii, when many games are lazy ports.

However, I could care less for exclusives. I want to play kick-ass games. Modern Warfare is a kick-ass game. Yes, it suffers from not being exclusive, mostly notable in its game engine which was not designed specifically for Wii. It still is a much better game than The Conduit though.

The difference is that HVS and Sega actually promoted The Conduit like they wanted people to buy it. Perhaps a little too much. Reflex has been stuffed under a rug like Activision are ashamed of it, releasing only a few alpha screens that almost seem like they might be designed to undermine the game's sales.

Was Modern Warfare: Reflex even announced when The Conduit came out?

Good point. Still, The Conduit was overhyped in retrospect, because the game was only just "ok", whereas Modern Warfare Reflex is fantastic.
