I myself am also guilty of this: hyping the wrong game. I wanted the best controls, I wanted an excellent online component, I wanted to shoot things with pin-point accuracy and it had to look good, too.
Yes, I was hyped for The Conduit, but instead, I should have been hyped for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex.
This game has everything that people were hyping The Conduit for: customizable controls (in fact much better than Conduit had), terrific online component (without huge glitches and lag, like in Conduit), enjoyable single player (without the boring levels in Conduit) and impressive visuals (without the bump mapping and bloom lightning in Conduit, unfortunately).
CoD: Modern Warfare Reflex is a much better game than The Conduit, and most people don't know it. To those who have read this: you are now educated! Forget about The Conduit, and get Modern Warfare for Wii. This game has the best controls and the best online in a Wii game yet.
And if you don't like to shoot games go play My Baby Petz you wuss.

What you ran into seems to be somewhat common among fans of a console. They feel a need to hype an exclusive for their system and be biased for it. Because Conduit was an exclusive, there was a desire to go gaga over it, and have the hope it would be a killer app to get FPS to see the light about the Wii. Well, it looks like, if I trust what you wrote, it took an established title to bring a good FPS to the Wii. The problem is that it is an older title that already came out for the 360 and PS3. So, you are faced with a problem here, if you want to "pimp" your console. You end up having to recommend a title that isn't exclusive, and thus of little value in system fanboy wars.
And this is why fanboy wars is not helpful for the industry.
