I fail to believe that anyone can make sense out of MGS's story.

Yeah, I don't think so either, but if you play the earlier games you'll recognize returning characters and stuff like that, so hopefully it will lower the confusion factor just a tad.

IMO Best to worst would be, 4 and 3 (kinda a tie I cant figure out which is better maybe 4) then 1 then 2. It's not like 2 was horrible, it was fun to play but the ending was kind of confusing, a lot of information is thrown at you in the end is all. Oh and make sure you play it in the order of 1 2 3 4.

Well MGS story is so far fetched and complex that even a lot of MGS fans do not fully understand the story. Characters get thrown into the game randomly and the story plot is so messed up. Anyway just play the MGS games and do not try to fully analyse the MGS story it will leave you in a head spin. There are a lot of spin off games from the MGS main story. Play the main games first and if you have time give the spin off games a go.

The order of the MGS story in regards to the main games are: MGS 3>MGS 1>MGS 2>MGS 4.

Ha, speak for your self. The main story doesn't even start with MGS, which just shows the level of knowledge that you have of it. Metal Gear story starts with the first games on the MSX/NES, only then does it continue with MGS.

Personally I have understood most of the key aspects of the game and the message that Kojima tried to imply with it, yet I can also understand why some people will be confused by it. The best way to get up to speed with it is if you play all the games and try to analize the story by all of it's implications.
