I saw this coming a year ago.... I don't know why though since they have just about everything done and they just need to balance shit out, which what the beta would do....

To be fair betas involving the general public get people talking, they probably want to do more private betas with the gaming press, and select groups of gamers that can't talk about what they play so they don't get the bad publicity.  It's all apart of making a great game, but you also don't want to hurt your sales.
