Wow the damage is so vastly improved.
Id like to see some more intense gameplay footage but its looking quite good.

In those points i've got to concede to you, it does have a really good engine sound effect and the shaking was well executed too. I got the game for PC and managed to pass most of it, but it gets to a point where you're constantly getting that effect due to agressive opponents hitting you and throwing you off the track, and it was pretty annoying. I was playing with the HUD off, I do it for every racer that I got, makes for a more natural feeling ;)

Yes
but the point of the title was also to show that we have GT5 gameplay in a 3rd person view
because people say in the replay extra AA is added n stuff

What's really standing out for me in that damage model is that both scratches are localized. I've been playing Forza 3 and most racing simulators with damage, like GTR2 and GPL, and the scratches models are just model swapped from the original car. In Forza 3 it really shows the most, since you can actually see the model swapping taking place, as scratches appear in a whole panel and not only in the place where the contact was made. So if they can do Localized scratching, denting and chassis bending, then they'll get the best damage model for a racing simulator out there :D |
so it is like a sort of texture exchange from the "normal" to "damaged" ...
whatever, we should wait for confirmation before considering GT5 has the best one
the video quality is not enought good to really judge it IMO

@darth
People will always find some way to discredit GT5 and PD. Just wait until someone enters and says that the damage model is really bad, or that the enviroment still looks really bad.

That tuned infinity is really good looking, plus it's cockpit is amazing :O I loved how the 3rd person view shows us that the myth of GT5 having bad enviroments when compared to the cars is only that, a myth. The game will look astonishing when it's finally released :D |
I mus be watching a different video. Isnt this the video which GameTrailers used to show the poor scenery they were on about awhile back? The cars and lighting are amazing, but the textures and lack of design in courses are very apparant. I really want them to up the resolution of the textures on tree trunks, barriers and the hedge on the left ( which he nearly hits. ) Theres actually a better quality video of third person on this track on the net. I think the poor quality of the OP's vid hides some of the low textures and 2d models.
Bare with the video. third person is shown throughout.

I see your point but can u really judge the technical aspect of the environnement with this crappy first video ?
EDIT : I dont understand, your last post seems to indicate your are saying the opposite ... environnement is shit ?

@libelulle
Yes, it's a texture swapping technique which makes it easier for the GPU to process instead of modelling the car in conformity of the damage per se.
Yeah, some more videos showing the damage and more confirmation from PD part will be good, and we can't even begin to consider it the best until we have word on the mechanical damage and it's overall effect on the conduction of the car per se, but until then, that's one hell of a good scratch xD

@Selnor
You do realize that the video you posted was an old build which even had the "bare" damage model of the Subaru right? That video is from the Jeux video event, and if I remember correctly, people were still complaining about it due to it being a replay mode video.
This is a true Gameplay video with no replay added effects, even if it has a bad quality, you can see how good the enviroments look, and in the second video, the damage replay one, you can even see trees moving to the effect of the wind, effects that weren't shown in older gameplay videos
