Forums - Gaming - The vgchartz ranking game--Mirror's Edge!

Wow I thought there were gonna be some pretty low scores.  I'm pretty surprised right now.

7.5/10
Good interesting concept
Really short and poor online doesnt help
poor story line

Long Live SHIO!

+ Soundtrack is good.

+/- The graphics style were nice - the white stylish tone. Sometimes the excessive use of white would blind me. You're placed on a white rooftop with white walls on a bright, sunny day. I fell a couple of times because I couldn't probably see where the ledge was.
+/- Controls are okay though they were frustrating when they didn't respond, especially when making jumps.
+/- Being chased by the cops was fun but a little annoying. The few parts where I found the game fun was when you were getting chased by the cops. Though the adrenaline rush ended pretty fast because after a minute or two, you entered the elevator! Another thing that made it annoying was the dodgy collision detection.
+/- The first-person platforming was interesting, but there were a couple of problems. The first-person view was very limiting, especially when you had a face-full of wall. I couldn't sometimes see where I had to jump next, so I would take a leap of faith (hehe).

- Story is terrible and so are the characters. It's also poorly told/explained. Why are the cops chasing me? What is so bad about the bag I have?
- The cutscenes are terrible - they look like something from that esurance commercial.
- Very repetitive. It just felt very bland after playing it for 2 hours. I was like "ohh" and "ahh" at first, but the first-person platforming novelty wore off pretty fast. You're just doing the same thing for the whole game: jump to the red thing, run away from enemies, etc. There's no exploration in this game or anything that freshens the experience.
- No freeroam or multiple paths to take.
- Checkpoints are poorly placed.
- Dodgy collision detection.
- Combat is horrible. I know this wasn't the game's main emphasis, but there were a couple of parts where you needed to take out some of those cops. The shooting here is clunky, and hand-to-hand combat is pretty weak.
- Lots of trial and error.
- Not a lot to do after beating the game.
- Ending was weak. Jump to the helicopter to defeat the evil man.
- Too short; though I might as well put as a positive. The shorter this POS game is, the better.

My score: 3.5/10

I enjoyed the demo, but the full game ended up flat.

9.1
Game play was amazing (even though i sucked at it) It was refreshing, and something I could not get tired of. The storyline was actually fairly relevant to the times, and I found it to be rather amusing.
However, the story line was also a bit weak, and gameplay buggy at times,

Past Avatar picture!!!

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

9.3/10

+ Atmosphere
+ Graphics
+ Style
+ The background story (Runners and stuff)
+ Music
+ It gets funnier with experience

- Too short and too repetitive
- Story

I can agree with that. On one hand I wish DICE had made it more universally appealing, on the other hand I think it was a good learning experience for them, and that the sequel can be much MUCH better.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

9/10
It is one of the best user created levels on LBP. ^_^

But a 7/10 for the regular game

I agree, it's one of my favorites from this generation. With any luck, Mirror's Edge 2 will be out next year, and DICE will have corrected much of what was wrong with the first game

I give it a 9 just because it took me like 3+ hours to get past one point where I didn't see the fast way and I thought that my only option was to fight, and I had to win a medium range gun fight with machine guns. It showed the very weak medium and long range gun play that the game has. (Short range is sweet though.)I don't wish for a FPS, but a slightly better aiming at distance, down the irons to stay with the realism maybe, and it's all perfect.

Great music, great atmosphere, great visuals, unique game, very strong "there" feeling.
A solid 9.
