I want to know as well. Last I checked, SE scrapped the White Engine and the exclusivity of FFXIII because they wanted to double their profits by using the 360 as a cheap and quicker way to make extra profit.

Not to be a smart ass, but wasn't the White Engine just a code-name for Crystal Tools?

If thats the engine they were using for the exclusive FFXIII, then yes.

Its my understanding that Crystal Tools was a Multiplat engine from the get-go. They also wanted to use the same engine to develop their games for The Wii and 360, even before the multiplat announcement. Im pretty sure that if the Last Remnant came out this year, it would have used Crystal Tools instead of the UE3

The White Engine was used to create the original PS3 exclusive FFXIII, but it was scrapped. Look it up. Apparently FFXIII was expected to look worlds beyond the multiplat version you see today.

if that is true then it would mean it was too costly for Square enix and wasn't eddicient enough for producing games at a considerable rate. Can't blame SE when they are a company first and foremost.



actually i looked up the white engine, other than the fact they changed the name, all they did different was make it more flexible for more consoles. there was no indication that it would have been more superior if it was just on the ps3.

I believe the reason why people are complaining about the visuals is because ff13 was announced with a trailer all the way back in 2005 when the current gen has barely even started. People was so hyped for the visuals, not knowing it would take over 4 more years before it would be completed. By this point games with amazing graphical capabilities like Killzone, Uncharted 2, and Gears have spoiled the gaming masses (especially Crysis for pc users) that it just doesn't look that amazing anymore. If MGS4 took just as long, we wouldn't care about its visuals either but it at least was released over a year ago.



I think it really depends on how casual the FF fanbase is here in NA. If the main audience is a big hardcore following of people then they would most likely go for the PS3 version seeing as how the PS3 has FF13 Versus and FF14 coming the next year as well. If the main audience is more casual then I think more of them would actually lean towards buying a PS3 for this game but for those who already have a system I would assume the biggest proportion would go the 360 due to it's much much higher install base. So overall I think the sales dividend will rely on which FF fanbase outways the other as far as hardcore/casuals go.

And I am basing this off of absolutely nothing!

I don't know if FFXIII version is being gimped, I just know that the White Engine (or crystal tools) was created to take full use of the PS3's power and not the 360's. There is no gimping going on. I just know that Your response makes the most sense to me and is close enough.



trust me i played on the japan demo, and it is superior (visual wise) to what i have seen recently, since then they have had to tweak it so it runs the same on both platforms, that's just what happens when a game that was exclusive (and in mid-development) goes multiplatform.

My estimate now
While I used to think Xbox 360 version would do better, I'm thinking now the PS3 version will do better seeing some of the results with games like AA, Tekken 6, and Blaz Blue and various non-fps games.
