Forums - Gaming - Remind me again why Modern Warfare 2 is supposed to be a day one purchase?

Because of the developers. They are amongst the greatest development teams of our time, and their games are fantastic.

That said, I buy games for single player experience. I don't need to grind, I don't need millions or even tens of hours worth of gaming out of my 60 dollar purchase, and I will buy this game knowing that without a shadow of a doubt,  it will be worth every red cent.

Why not rent it? Cause I've already rented Uncharted 2, and my gamefly account only allows 1 game at a time.

....but fyi, I kinda get a gut feeling that this game might be a keeper.

Also, I don't think the dedicated server complaints are justified at all. IW gave their reasonings, and if you don't like it, don't buy it. Period. Incessant complaining obviously won't change their minds. These people are not friendly to gamers, or competition. They are pretty rigid developers and their beliefs are not negotiable.

I buy this for the same reason I buy Zelda. The developers deserve to have the game bought. It will probably be great, and you don't need multiplayer to make it so. By your logic, why buy any game. It seems to me that you're just upset for some reason unrelated to the actual quality of the game, and want to degrade its percieved value, publicly.

...also, CoD4:MW was the only videogame my father ever played. Day 1 for MW2, for me and him.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

The suits have spoken, along with the media, and a bunch of original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans.  The word is that you MUST buy Modern Warfare 2, day one.  Well, unless you are upset at some features missing, such as dedicated servers and a few other things:

http://www.stageselect.com/N4694--3--modern-warfare-2-pc-player-concerns-wont-deter-sal.aspx

That is said to be understood, and outrage justified.  However, I want to look at the game itself, and wonder why.  I see the following:

1. If the game is just a great single player experience, why not just rent the game, and play through it?  Then wait for later and pick it up, if I want to own it.

2. If the game is merely some tweaks to the basic game, why not do that as a patch or add-on?

3. Does the game add any new features that are significant?  Do we get a hoard/zombie mode?  Is anything added to make the single player experience more replayable, like adding bots, and allowing single player grinding to level up RPG style?

4. Graphics have been improved?  I thought the original was good. Not sure what is being driven at here as an improvement, and why it matters.

In short, why get MW2 instead of just reacquiring the original COD4:MW?

It's ridiculous to consider your obviously negative opinion of the franchise has any bearing on a fan's decision. It's a first day purchase for the same reason any other game is a first day purchase, people want to play the game and don't want to wait to play it. You want to know what Modern Warfare 2 gives me day one? 10-15 new multiplayer maps, customizeable kill streaks and my clan is switching to it. That's it. That's all I care about. I want it day one because I just want new maps to learn in multiplayer and because I want to continue playing with my friends.

It's not like the price is going down anytime soon. Modern Warfare got a $10 price cut a few months back, after a year and a half on the shelves. Is that what we should all wait for? The price cut that'll come in 2011? Please. Just like you might want a number of games on day one for no logical reason other than to have them immediately, that's why people want Modern Warfare 2 day one.

I actually find the question offensive that you obviously picked this game to single out when there isn't a game outside of sports titles that have a legitimate reason to be purchased day one. The worth of the game is up to the individual considering purchasing it. Save your negative bias for later because you didn't hide it well in this thread at all.

Nothing that comes out during the Fall is a must buy day 1 for me, I can wait until Christmas to get any recent releases!!

Sadly I already played and beat it at freinds place...6 hour long campaign that is exactly the same as MW gameplay wise and has zero replayability.

With that said, I think i will pick it up still...MP is going to be great.
But then again, left 4 dead 2 is almost out too...and that demo they have of the game rocks hard too.

Hmm...maybe not day 1 purchase here.

O_O

You do realize the first games campaign was 4-6 hours long by most accounts as well, and it's epic....

I'm aware. I would have figured the sequel to have a longer one. Whether it is epic or not isn't really relevant as that's your opinion.

What's your opinion, then?

I just figured by your reaction that you didn't know. I couldn't understand the "surprised" expression.
