Forums - Sony - Guerilla Games interview: Killzone 3 in 2011.. maybe even 2010

So I was watching this awful tv show wannahaves on dutch television.. and they had an interview with Guerilla Games:

IT'S IN DUTCH

http://rtl.nl.wannahaves.com/item/babef376/a/guerrilla-games--killzone

Some highlights:

started to work on KZ2 from 2004.. full production time 3 1/2 year with 130 people from 2006 till 2009.. production costs many of tens of millions euros..

But more important in the end a voiceover says that GG is working on KZ3 with a release in 2011 and maybe even in 2010...

Will Killzone 3 be Sony's big 2010 holiday title?

Sony have never gone for a big holiday title. They normally go for a selection of games in different genres.

2011 is the way to go. Give K2 some time to get some sales from legs and let the fanbase grow on PS3. They don't need to rush a sequel just yet.

Plus R3 is rumored as well. So if they do this, 2008 will be repeated. 2 shooters on PS3 that have to be seperated by a release window of a couple of months. Plus Activision just announced a new CoD for next yr. Halo reach also launches next yr, so Sony please don't send either K2 or R3 to the slaughterland. Too many shooters next yr!

Resistance 3 in late 2010 would be very foolish.

OT: 2011 is the way to go.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Why, may I ask?

Because Halo: Reach and COD7 release by then. I fear it would get overshadowed...

Awesome. I'm hoping it will be released some time in the first half of 2011, so Sony can keep the year going. The holidays will be packed with 3rd party releases anyway, might as well keep the current style, and having something to release the year around.

...unless Sony strongly advertises Resistance 3.

3.5 years like I said with 130 employees like I said... I don't know why people were so hell bent on saying 5 year dev cycle with close to 200 employees. Very end of 2004 is when they probablly started (Immediatly after KZ) and then went full cycle a few months later. The first few months were probablly just paying a few artists for concept art sketches. Still I believe it was less than 130 employees 3 and a half years before release since they also had KZ:L being worked on and the studio was smaller back then. Then when KZL was done a bunch of devs hoping on KZ2 then when the DLC was finished then the full team was working on it. Then in 2008 pulling people off since it was practically finished. (Seriously. Go look at the screens that were released mid-08. I don't know why sony delayed it till Feb. I cant see there being enough work for 130 employees for just polish for the last half year.)

BTW - 1 American Dollar = 1.25 Euros in '06. So a minimum of 25 million dollars then (20 million = tens of millions)

My breakdown.

Game finished in Jan. The 3.5 years means they started really developing in mid '05. 90 employees till end of '06. 120 employees till begining of '07. 130 employees till mid '08 when the game was practically done. Then back down. Those employees obviously started working on KZ3 right away.

^^ Call of Duty would cause it trouble, not Halo. The muliplatform status would hurt Resistance 3 if anything, Halo would not.

Agreed. But you also have to take into account PS360 owners...

Halo and COD release every year around the same time. So are you guys saying to NEVER release a shooter during the later part of the year?
