Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's 2q results

In a nutshell, good solid results. Some might have expected more but it's the slowest quarter of the year.

They raised the targeted shipment for the year by 1 Million right?

yeah one million for wii, and two million for DS...but when does the next quarter end? in January?

so if i were to go off of vgcharts with their projected shipped units...they will have about 5 million wiis out in the market from now to this holiday season?

Didn't they sell about 4 million total last holiday and were expecting twice as many this holiday?

17.5 is for the fiscal year not lifetime. That would translate in 22 million total, right?

^^
oh yeah that's right. thanks...it's late. so yeah that would be around 10 million this year? so yeah that's probably about double last year if you guess they'll have around 2 million for october and november-ish.

Their last fiscal year was 5.84 million, so the total shipped as of the end of September was 13.17 million and the total at the end of March is predicted to be 23.34 million. As a side note, VGChartz has Wii at 12.12 million at the end of September, indicating either 1 million units in the retail channel(which would help with holiday supply) or undertracking in certain regions(I'm not suggesting numbers need to be changed though).

As for holiday supply, the predicted number is 10.17 million units left for October-March. That's roughly 1.7 units per month assuming they'll be producing at a flat rate or about 5.1 million units by the end of the calendar year. If we add this to the 1 million left in the retail channel and subtract the number of units sold so far in October, 605,717 according to VGChartz, there will be about 5.5 million units available between now and the calendar year's end. If they're all sold it'd mean a LTD sales of 18.23 million.

I don't remember reading anything about expectations of twice as many units this holiday as last, just significantly more. And the actual number available last year was 3.19 million according to Nintendo's financial statement.

EDIT: Ummm how'd the quote's background color turn black?

linkzmax: So 20 Million total this year seams reasonable.

It depends.  If Nintendo is still being conservative, or expect retailer demand to decrease January-March than it's possible that the total may hit 20 million.  I'd say 17 million is all but guaranteed, and 18 million is highly likely at this point.

It was a quote from someone at NOA (Reggie?). They said they would have roughly double the units for holiday season this year, compared to last. No mention whether it was WW, US only, etc.

"The amount of Wii hardware that will be in North American stores will be unprecedented. Substantially more than the launch, substantially more that has been seen to date,"

As far as doubling I could only find http://gonintendo.com/?p=27050 and the source doesn't mention anything about it.
