Forums - Website Topics - VG Chartz are Nintendo fanboys?

At first i didn't think much of it, but then i delved deeper into the reviews section to look for more clues.  And here is what i found.

I have compiled a comparison (as listed in the reviews section on this site) of several popular titles across platforms.

Uncharted 2 (PS3) - VG Score 9.2 - Critic Score 9.5

inFamous (PS3) - VG Score 8.2 - Critic Score 8.7

Demon Souls (PS3) - VG Score 8.7 - Critic Score 9.0

Halo 3 (X360) - VG Score 8.8 - Critic Score 9.6

The Conduit (Wii) - VG Score 8.3 - Critic Score 6.6

Wii Sports Resort (Wii) - VG Score 8.8 - Critic Score 8.0

These games are all on the front page of the reviews section so anyone can easily go along and have a look.

The list goes on too, while not in every case there definitely seems to be a love affair for all things on the Wii and DS.

... What exactly is "critic score"?

Critic scores are listed on this site as the average review score given to a game by other reviewers (so think metacritic)

You might want to read rule 7.

Oh my god! You mean that VGChartz doesn't score games the exact same amount as the average review number on MetaCritic?!

There's a reason it's an average. Some will be higher and some will be lower.

Thanks for the sarcasm majin, but seriously just have a look at the reviews. VG Chartz regularly rates X360 & PS3 games below average critic scores, and rates Wii & DS games above average critic scores. If you couldn't be bother looking at this, i'd prefer if you also couldnt be bothered to post.

@gnizmo what is rule 7?

EDIT: nevermind i just read it.

Website criticism. Just as with platform criticism, do not attack the website with out basis. Reasonable debate based on facts are acceptable, but repeated attacks and negative comments about the website will not be tolerated. People are here to discuss sales numbers, and doing nothing but attacking the site is disruptive to those who are trying to participate in a sales discussion.

This would be my first time ever "attacking" VGChartz, to be honest i think this is a great website, just some of the reviews are questionable.  And i have provided evidence of this, and i am willing to engage in a reasonable debate.  So i think all is well.

A handful of examples is anecdotal evidence at best. If you can't be bothered to read the rules though, then you shouldn't bother to post. Just taking your advice to the next logical conclusion.

You're quite welcome.

I did look, and you listed maybe 4-5 games where they happen to differ from average review scores. What you need to realize is that reviews are opinion. There is no such thing as an unbiased review and there never will be. Maybe the particular reviewer prefers Nintendo over Sony/Microsoft, maybe not.

Maybe, just maybe, the reviewer in question gave the games the exact score he/she thought that they deserved.

I listed only a few just as examples, if you are truelly interested then flick through the pages of reviews and have a look for yourself (as i stated in my opening post).

And if you are not interested in reading these reviews for yourself, then please don't post, it's fine, i won't feel hurt.

If you can't create an argument then this thread violates an explicitly stated rule. The burden of proof is on you. I would suggest you try to get some going sooner rather than later as it will end with the thread locked otherwise. Possibly you will be banned.

Flicking through the reviews shows me a ton of examples above, below, and spot on. Further, you need to establish the "average" review score as actually an average and not a hand picked set of reviews. On top of that you have to explain why this is true across multiple people. After that you need to show there is actually a bias one way or the other by showing how many are over and under. Short of that you are just flaming the site with anecdotal evidence.
