Wii sports sold more than 10 million its first year

I didn't count it because it was bundled with a console. it has an obvious advantage there that NSMB Wii doesn't have. It is useless to compare the two.

Eh, it's doable.

Look at Wii Sports Resort. That thing is going to blow right past 11mil in its first year of sales.

Although NSMB Wii doesn't have the advantage of MK Wii's wheel, it does have the advantage of a larger userbase. Also, it's the main holiday game of 2009, so it'll probably reach near 7mil from November / December alone. An extra 4mil from there on is cake.

If it manages those numbers before 2010, I will be prepared to lose, and I will admit it.

The way I look at NSMBW is it'll either go the way of Mario Kart or Animal Crossing:CF

Neither of those games were revolutionary or even did much to push their franchises forward.

However Mario Kart allowed you to drive with a wheel - included! - and was fun for all ages. Someone anyone and everyone could grasp. It also added online to classic game play. Sellable to core and expanded audience.

Animal Crossing did too little to innovate. It really didn't make use of any Wii functionality at all (except Wii Speak) and didn't effectively convey what it was to the uninitiated masses. It was also WAY to similar to AC DS and AC GC to sell to the core. A tragic missed oppurtunity.

NSMBW is immediately relatable to anyone who has ever played or even seen a video game. People immediately 'get' it no matter who they are. Looks like fun. Multiple people can play together (like MKW, unlike AC:CF). It innovates enough the core will definite buy it. Easy and fun for the mass market.

Yeah, it's easily got a shot at 11m in one year. It'll all depend on how fun it is to actually play.

Your brain also told you to buy Happy Feet for the Wii. I am surprised that you still have faith in your brain.

Anyway, I laughed. Good thread.

Happy Feet is the BOMB, yo!

i lol'd when i read

"Before we move furthur I would like to have a moment of silence. During this silence, I want everyone to concentrate on how awesome Nintendo is and what they have done for gaming."

hello how are you.

it won't. it'll only sell 10,99 million.

I would also say that COD4 could cut into its sales, the videos are looking great.

It's well know that 2D platformers and FPS compete for the same audience.

It will probably have strong sales, like it or not.
