Forums - Nintendo - EA on the psychology and tastes of the Wii gamer

I can't wait to see the sales in comparison to the previous NFS on the Wii, I think we have another DS:Extracton in our hands.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.

DS:E was a game people didn't want (cinematic rail shooter?). People do want arcade racers on the other hand. While I'd like if the physics was just a teensy bit closer to reality*, I think they got their ideas right, especially having all the career playable with local multiplayer. It's just a stupid flaw in having the camera lower when you go faster and not having a bumper view.

*I'm not asking for sim physics, just a little less unnatural

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

DSE got what it deserved.  When you treat Wii owners like 2nd class citizens, don't be surprised when they don't bite.

As for arcade vs sim racers, I'd say both can do well.  You've got Forza and GT on one end, Burnout and Mario Kart on the other.  The problem isn't so much the genre as it is how it's done.

So much the worse for developers that don't seize the day. The waiting for Forza 3, and even more for the long awaited GT5 are making this period overall hot, whatever the platform, for racers. Mario got the laurels for arcade racers last years, and it's still in the Top 10, after more than one year and a half. Now it's time for sim racers, but even for "realistic arcades", for faint hearted drivers wanting a racer as realistic as possible, but easy to drive. Developers must choose between offering very amusing and brilliant, but totally unrealistic games like MKWii (and the model absolutely over the top, but perfectly playable anyway is one of its strong points) or realistic arcades and sims. Failing at delivering one of the three different things gamers desire will leave half assed games in the dust. As it's only just that it be.

This thing that third parties study Wii gamers, and talk about them, like documentarists do about rare and curious animals, never stops making me laugh.

This is about how I feel, but replace 'laugh' with 'feel confused'.  I really don't think that Wii gamers are that difficult to understand.  It's just that when you put your B and C Teams on a project, and then don't properly fund or advertise that project, you are not going to see success.  Especially when that project is competing with Nintendo's A Team with proper funding and advertising.
