A LittleBigPlanet 2 would be “counterproductive” say Media Molecule

Our extensive interview with Media Molecule – part one of which is to be published tomorrow (Thursday), with part two going live on Monday – covers a variety of subjects. When it came to the future of the LittleBigPlanet franchise on the PS3, they were decidedly unambiguous.

“I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.” said producer Martin Lynagh, referring to DLC and updates for the existing game.

Level designer Danny Leaver said that a sequel would fragment the LBP community. “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.” he said.

Media Molecule have given what is surely the most dedicated post – launch community support in the history of video games, and such dismissal of a sequel should serve to reassure fans still further.

Well I would like to see what they can accomplish away from the LittleBigPlanet um world.

What have they really been working on for the past year though?
The new water tools? New costumes? Neither of those should take up to many people to work on.

I think he does have a point. Considering the game can be constantly updated and all about user generated content... would be no need for a sequel and probably wouldn't do that well at all. Anywhere else you could take a game like that could easily be done in an update haha.

Of course money wise this isn't a great decision so I'd expect Sony to really push them into making a sequel anyways.

Good, it's beter this way.

Finally a publisher that "cares" about the product and the customer; bravo MM.

Well Sony is full of those kind of companies. Naughty Dog and Polyphony are the biggest examples.

Well then you mean developers as Sony is the publisher... not them.  I'd say there is generally a wide range of developers that are pretty close and compassionate with their fanbases.  Finding publishers that are like that are more difficult because they deal with more fo the financial, marketing, and business plans of the products.
