Forums - Sony - Anyone else in disbelief about those MAG preorder numbers?

I am very shocked, and have been expecting that the numbers would've been adjusted down by now. 80k with 12 weeks to go? That's insane for a game that nobody expected to sell even a million lifetime (I know I didn't expect it to).

i think its cuz gamstop gives beta keys for it upon preorder and it is actually a really good game, but the preorder numbers are not accurate i think ign said cod:mw2 hit 2.8 mil, so theres something skewed.

why u doubt about those preorders numbers?

Disbelief? Not really, but I am surprised.

I wouldn't say it's not believable, but it sure is a shocker...

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

It's not that crazy. It just means that it will likely end up selling 200k-300k first week. And to me, it demonstrates that the PS3 is finally starting to show big launches and big software sales.

shocked to be honest

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeah they are pretty damn large. But I would say that I'm just a little surprised.

Well the numbers could be wrong for a few reasons...

We don't really know where VGchartz get the numbers they use but we do know they have a reduced number of sources for the pre-order data compared to the sales data.

Let's say that they base their estimations on purchases at a few select stores... let's say 5 Ebgames chains, and they extrapolate the sales to all stores, ebgames, best buy etc. This would be reasonable considering the majority of new game sales comes from ebgames /gamestop.

However, the MAG preorder beta only applied to people who pre ordered at gamestop/ebgames. So if they extrapolate the preorders in the same way they apply all of the other pre-orders then you may have an over estimate of MAG pre orders. It is also not well defined how many pre-orders came from non-ebgames stores if you don't have the data. Also you don't know how many pre-orders were for the beta only and not just because they want the game. Making the extrapolation work difficult to justify.

actually the most surprising part about all this is that it's getting a lot of preorder attention despite modern warfare 2 releasing very soon..
