Forums - Sony - Heavy Rain Dev Believes it can SELL Despite PACKED Release Window!

I will buy this over GOW personally, I'm excited for something new and different.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

I think it will struggle to get rave reviews and decent sales.

I reckon 81 on Metacritic and 800k LTD.

Why?

Because it's in a very unlikable genre, and reviewers these days assert what they like into their score.

Psychological Horror is a "very unlikable genre"? Since when?

You see the sales for movies and games in this area? Yeah, it doesn't have mass appeal.

Actual horror games this generation (Silent Hill, Siren, and Fatal Frame 4) have not sold all that well.

None of them received proper marketing either. But I wasn't arguing sales, but reviews. Where did sales come from?

I was answering question as to why it's an unlikable genre. It doesn't have mass appeal and sales support that.

Games that have mass appeal are more likely to be enjoyed (hence the greater review score) by more people.

This is why I've compared it to Ico games. They don't have mass appeal either, but a strong following who's sales never held them back from being hailed as some of the greatest games ever crafted. As I'm sure you know, sales don't reflect quality.

The two aren't comparable as Shadow of the Colossus was quite successful selling over a million.

But Shadow of Colossus was your standard action adventure title in the vein of Zelda. It didn't have near the same amount of things going against that Heavy Rain does.

I am going to buy this no matter what happens. Lol!
People who enjoyed IP or Fahrenheit will definitely enjoy this just like Mr. Cage said.

I believe Heavy Rain can still sell pretty well for a new IP in a uncommon genre whenever its released. The graphics, exclusivity and unique gameplay will help drive sales with the core PS3 fans.
That being said, release dates do matter!! I would not launch Heavy Rain on the same day as Modern Warfare 2 or God of War III.

I'm planning on buying it day one. I loved Indigo Prophecy (all the way up until the ending) and I had Quantic Dreams first game Omikron the Nomad Soul on PC as well. I'm definitely a fan of their work and Heavy Rain is one of my top 10 most anticipated games for next year.

@CGI Quality
Yeah I think it will sell well, but not as much as it deserves. It will be a Cult Classic!

It doesn't matter if a release window is packed with other titles. If the game is unique, it will still sell. I don't see how Heavy Rain is competing against MW2, or other games coming out this season.
