Both these games were , in many gamers heads , destined to fail in review scores but we were definitely proven wrong...ive only played Batman so my opinion is mute(but still it was one hell of a surprise)

So whats your choice for biggest surprise of the year?

I think that Batman will win it at most sites, but I personally think that Demon's Souls deserves it more. Batman I always figured would be a decent game, but Demon's Souls looked pretty much horrible the first time they showed it off. To think that a game like that came to be such a great game is a marvel.

It would have to be Batman for me. Very awesome game.

I heard about it like one week before it came out.

I'd say Demons Souls simply because I've played it (for many hours mind you) and have only played the demo for AA.

I didn't think Demon's Soul would fail in terms of review scores... Batman was understandable because the history of games based off of movies, comics, etc.

Unless you're saying that JRPG games are expected to get bad review scores just like spin off games are.

If you're talking about sales, then I'll be surprised about Demon's Soul.

Batman, because it is a film franchise, and we all know what happens there normally.

JRPG's this gen have been less than stellar review wise.....judging by the look of the game and the buzz around it , it definitely wasnt thought to get near AAA scores or even close to AAA scores.

I see, that's understandable, but also very sad and hard to accept (that JRPGs can fall to be the equals of spin off games).

Although VC did get nice scores from what I remembered, as did Yakuza 3.

I've played both extensively and have beaten batman twice, but so far not finished Demon's Souls. That's not because it's less good, but because it's so long, and super hard (not a bad thing) . It's a pretty tight race, but so far I'd pick Batman, it was just so well done, in almost every regard, totally unexpected for me.
