Wow, price drop and sales drop. That's bad.
Wow, price drop and sales drop. That's bad.
The only way I can see this not being extremely bad for the PS3 is if:
- many stores didn't cut the price immediately, and
- many people knew that they would, so they held off their purchases.
Other than that, I just don't see a way to spin this. Even without advertisement, there shouldn't be a drop in a price drop week.
My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957
First of all, most stored didn't know(see: this week's ads).
Secondly, it is still $500, which is what the 60GB was selling for. Regardless of it is a bundle or not, $500 is still $500.
Maybe when the 40GB is released at $400, people will realize how good a deal the $500 one is, and the 80GB will start moving. Maybe.
Personally, I'm far more interested in finding out what, if any, hardware boost the PS3 gets from R&C (As well as the software sales for the title).
The price cut probably won't have too big an effect, due to lack of advertisement as well as it still being at the $500 price point. It'll probably catch on with the 40GB's release and the heavy marketing campaign that should follow that.
why did they even do the price cut now? Shouldn't they actually wait for a time where they can get momentum from it? The last price cut was good because it was well known by consumers and retailers. If they had released the 40 gig and dropped the price of the 80 gig at the same time and let retailers know ahead of time they would have had better results.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
^Like I said: Maybe they got a heads up on their sales numbers, and decided to make moves so that they could STATE that Next month would be better, seeing as they JUST changed their gameplan... again.
The 80GB price cut was not really advertised much, since they already had a $500 PS3. You just get the choice of a pack in with the 80GB, or full BC with the 60GB.
The Europe PS3 starter packs saw a large jump in sales, since they were a much better deal.
ah my bad, no stores here have a price cut for the ps3s, so I assumed it wasnt until the first week of november (new ps3 model)
Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.
Looking at the new numbers I notice a lot of stuff is changed, orange box sales were reduced radically and pgr4 in the database is listed a lot higher in sales then the total number on the chart itself..
Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.
