I disagree strongly. I can't think of any games besides maybe Assassin's Creed that do climbing, jumping, etc. as well as Uncharted. Gears of War is great but what do you find so original about it? I'm actually asking. I think you've got it backwards. I would say Uncharted is more innovative and Gears "perfected" its style of gameplay.
What is there to disagree with? I gave examples such as Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider and Killswitch. All of these games came before Uncharted and. The only thing you've got on Gears is Killswitch. Uncharted by no stretch of the imagination is innovative. It just took from other great games and made its own name. Because of Uncharted I may never look at Tomb Raider again, because it is the total package of the games which I forementioned. Gears took from killswitch and innovated and pushing the third person shooters with aggessive warlike atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in a war complete with action, bayonette slicing, Quick reload/ Jamming. Gears is so innovative that Tecmo was compelled to make a game that looks exactly like it in the form of Quantum Theory for the PS3. That game...well..looks like a joke, but still a compliment is a compliment.
Okay yeah I'll admit Gears did some cool things like the chainsaw and the reloading thing but it's like the millionth game to have a "warlike atmosphere" like this. I mean the setting, the enemies, the movement, the cover system, the soldiers are all nothing new. They just did a good job of putting it all into one nice package.
And I know Uncharted's platforming is nothing new either, I think it's the extent to which you can use it that is somewhat innovative. Basically anything you see can be used for climbing on.
No game before Gears allowed you to feel like you were in Warlike situations. The whole feel of the battle was just extreme. That is something completely new to the third person genre. Not even COD or Halo make you feel so immersed in war. You feel like everything is falling ontop of you. As I said if you play the game on the right setting like I do, it is blistering fun. That is wholly innovative.
You cannot climb anything you see in the first Uncharted. I agree though that it is a great platformer.
Sounds like Killzone to me, honestly. The way I see it, Gears of War was inspired by Killzone and kill.switch.
Nah......no game was inspired by the first Killzone. It wasn't bad though to tell you the truth.
What I really liked about the first Killzone was that it felt like a gritty warzone, and that it felt believable despite being set in the future. I feel like Gears of War's setting was partly inspired by Killzone.

Well, Gears did feel like war when it first released, although NO game IMO did it quite like Killzone 2 has. Regardless, Uncharted 2 felt so cinematic, it's ridiculous. No game before blended all the things it did, while in some cases, Uncharted 2 did things of it's own. Entire set pieces moving and breaking apart while combat is happening. No, Tomb Raider didn't do that.
Halo 3 (final scene) and Gears 2 (Jacinto) did that.

Like Uncharted 2?
One was a collapsing Halo while MC escaped driving a Warthog. The other was a collapsing building with giant creatures attacking and tearing the building apart. Uncharted's camera angles were much better, though. Especially with all of the scenery bouncing around.
"Sure other games have done things similar, but Uncharted 2 did this with many things happening on screen at once. Go back and listen to some stuff from E3, it wasn't called: "the greatest technical showcase on any platform" for nothing. Meaning, it wasn't done quite like Uncharted 2 did it.
Still, it seems people are so bitter over the author's preference, it's not that serious people, damn." _________________________________________________________________________________ Hey! You edited!!

I'll assume that was a response to me, since it wouldn't make sense to respond to d21lewis with that sentence.
I was referring to Killzone 1.

Almost all PS3 exclusives boast one of a kind cinematic experiences. Heavenly Sword, remember? My only gripe with the game was that it was too cinematic in instances where I wanted to play.

Kill.Switch - (PS2/Xbox) title.
There are innovative aspects to Gears of War (active reload, Horde), but for people to say Uncharted does nothing innovative is ridiculous IMO.
As I said....name the innovations. I'll show you a game in the same genre where Uncharted got it from. What makes Uncharted so perfect is that it took great parts from other games and perfected them in one brilliant cinematic package. To innovate is to bring something new to the table in the genre that hasn't been see before there.

I can understand that, but the first Killzones wartime depiction in game was nowhere near Gears. Gears was just another level wartime gameplay, especially when you were running and breathing heavily. Every level felt expansive and unreal. Truthfully I understand your point there, but I cannot even see a resemblance.
(Spoilers for all who haven't played the game)
Killzone Gameplay (Nothing like Gears)...expansive...but felt just like every other wartime shooter.
Gears if a one of a kind war time experience. Period dude. LOL
