Forums - Gaming - If 3D Dot Game Heroes is successful, will Nintendo...

Make a new Zelda in the same style?

I was reading Malstrom's latest entry and I will be the first to say that I rarely ever agree with him, but I did read something in there that really interested me. He was mentioning how Nintendo is making games a lot like how they used to make games long ago, evident with titles such as Excite Bike and New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Is it possible that if 3D Dot Game Heroes does very well, Nintendo might hop on board and use it's wonderful style and bring Zelda back to the old school gamers in the way they remember it best?

Probably just wishful thinking, but I figured I would ask everyones opinion on this.

The game's success will have little bearing on Nintendo's decision because Zelda generally sells regardless. However I do remember talks about a LttP remake...

I say let Zelda be Zelda. They don't need to go borrowing/stealing or what have you other ideas from other games. Zelda is quite awesome in its own right, and will always be so.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

I would love for it to happen. The first Zelda had a charm that the rest of the series hasn't, as of yet, recreated. Having said that, I would much rather a game along the lines of Majora's Mask, in where, the focus was on interactions with the world and the characters. That is something I find very important in Action-Adventures. It may happen though, and I will welcome it openly. I don't think 3d Dot Game Heroes will have any effect in the finality of such decision though.

You mean the action-adventure genre?

@sc

I knew that looked odd when I re-read it, thanks

Zelda Wii will be whatever is going to be. I do not think for a moment that it would follow a 3D Dot Game Heroes style.

The reason I ask this is because ever since OoT and Majora's Mask, which were fantastic in their own right, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess just didn't do it for me. They lacked that charm Zelda titles were known for having, for me anyways, as I said, I don't speak for everyone. Zelda and LttP still remain to this day as my most beloved Zelda titles. They were top notch and still remain so.

I know 3D Dot Game Heroes could technically be my fantasy Zelda thanks to the character creator, but nothing would excite me more than seeing Nintendo, at least once, give gamers of my style, my age, the kind of game we have been yearning for much too long now.

I would seriously jizz in my pants at something like this.

Or even this:

^ Cool pics. I don't know. I suppose it's possible. Personally I want a retro Star Fox that has the same polygon count as the SNES game but anti-aliasing and all the extra power that a Wii has over a SNES is used to fill the screen with 100s of enemies or something else that also seems like overkill.
