Forums - Nintendo - Wii Sports dominates Bafta awards

Erik Aston said:

I addressed reviews. It was reviewed on traditional standards for what makes a "good game." The game itself was meant to render those standards irrelevant. It is succeeding. Given that, I find it kind of hard to criticize it receiving an award for innovation.

Edit: and btw, your reference to review scores and comparisons with other games in your first post were, at best, erm, "vague."

P.P.S. Trench warfare? The game just won six awards, and you're arguing it is "bad" based on critical reaction. Sounds more like you're surrendering Paris to me.

That's clever.

Like I said, I have a personal vendetta against the game. If you take awards from Bafta over major game sites and reviews, then that's fine. But as this thread has shown, one's opinion flows with their fanboyism. I don't like Wii Sports, and many professional reviewers have given it average scores.

Wii Sports is a great game, but games should win awards based on their deepness and structure. Perhaps I should have been more specific. If I had known the thread would be filled with so many sensitive people, I would've been. Yeesh.

No, I compared it to the status of those games based on the fact that all of the games received mixed reviews, at best.

Superman 64 would have much worse reviews than Wii Sports. Wii Sports is fun, but really, you get a week at best of fun, and then you want an actual game to play.

But seriously, this argument is like trench warfare. I fire a gun, you throw a grenade, a land mine goes off, someone throws a canister of mustard gas, some guys makes a suicide run, and yet we don't get anywhere at all.

Well, thats your opinion.

I have almost had my Wii for 12 months now - and we STILL regularly play WiiSports - both with new people to the house, and also on our own just for fun.

Its easily had more game time than anything else on our Wii, its easily had more people play it - and its probably responsible for selling 3 or 4 Wii consoles- just from our house.

...

I just completely disagree with YOUR definition of what is a game. You are so caught up in your "hardcore-ness", that you completely miss the point of what a videogame is supposed to be. So what if it doesn't appeal to you personally?

I pretty much *hate* Guitar Hero - but I still think its a great game. Halo & Bioshock don't really appeal to me, but I credit both of them as excellent games.

Its not that we are being sensitive -  I'm just calling you out as WRONG on this one. WiiSports deserves every award it gets, and in many ways it is a strong candidate for GOTY across the board.

*Yawn*

shams, do you ever stop? You're like this guy I just met on Live, except I didn't have to hear him when the game started.

Im just going to agree with Shams on this one.

>:( Wii Sports

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......

How dare we have differing opinions!

Woot, Territories on Valhalla! Hope it doesn't get vetoed!

Woot!

I don't see you letting down either, montana. You remind me of ckmlb, but with less insults and more sarcasm.

ckmlb?

I'm flattered. He's my idol on this site.

Ooh, less insults and more sarcasm? Damn, I got it in the bag. I hope he comes back to this site :(

Wow, Gamespot just gave R&C a 7.5.

Well then, dare I say it?

Fuck reviewers.

^That was predicted, though. They rarely give sequels higher scores, unless its Halo.
