I don't see Zelda Wii releasing in 2010. Most people are acting like it's a given, an official fact that the game will definitely come out next year, but all we've seen is asingle piece of concept art. I'll believe it comes out in 2010 when it does. :p

Considering Miyamoto has said they're totally remaking the 3D Zelda formula and the game isn't even close to being done, I don't understand why people keep saying it'll release in 2010 (unless they're just so hyped they've gotten themselves to believe it will).  I'm expecting something more like 2012 at the earliest.  Remember, it took them 5 years to perfect Orcarina of Time, the model which they've been using for the last 10 years for the other 3D Zeldas.

....Development for Ocarina of Time did not start in 1993. More like 1995 or 1996.

I'm not sure it'll be out in 2010 either but I do think it's much farther along than we all realize.  Knowing the Zelda team, they'll want to keep it in the oven a bit long to do some last minute revamps (a la Twilight Princess).

Well we'll have to wait and see. I say 2011.

Imagine how great it would be to have:

Metroid: Other M - 05/18/2010
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 08/21/2010
The Legend of Zelda: (Subtitle Here) - 11/23/2010

But yeah, Cheebee, I think the next Zelda will be the big Xmas release of 2011.  Though that above release schedule would be so sexy.

I think they're looking at Other M the most for that.

Those three games, combined with Endless Ocean 2 and the new Tingle RPG, all in one year? Reality wouldn't be able to handle that! :p

Early development (aka concept design and planning) started on the SNES, when the N64 and Mario 64 were in development.  Indeed early beta forms of Zelda 64 were much like Mario 64.

The very core of a 3D Mario and Zelda can trace their roots to the 'Super FX' chip and the failed team up with Sony to make an extention to the SNES (PlayStation).  The eventual realization of these ideas ultimately led to the N64 and the games we know today.  But basically I say that the game took around 5 years to make because Miyamoto said that himself.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

That's true, I distinctly remember reading that in several interviews with Miyamoto, he stated numerous times that it took them that long to create OOT. But OOT released in 1998, so even if you didn't know about what Miyamoto said, you could know, by simple reasoning, that development couldn't have started in 1996. I mean, these were the nineties, 3D gaming was in its infancy, Mario 64 was the 1st game to truly do 3D gaming right and make it succesful, developers had to learn everything anew, having known nothing but 2D. N64 was top of the line back then, highly sophisticated technology, OOT was revolutionary. There is no way in hell they could've created a game like that in 2 years.

Wouldn't count on it, the gaming media will be too busy getting off to the shooter-of-the-week to care about Nintendo's 'hardcore' games. =\

No. Nothing they do will change any media journalist's mind, they are set in stone. And by bashing the WIi repeatedly (especially in the case of highly anticipated titles), they get more and more approval from what they view as their main audience, the HD RULEZ crowd.

sadly... +1
