Forums - Nintendo - Could Nintendo win over the gaming media with SMG2 Zelda Metroid:OM in 2010

The image of the wii is set in stone for these people. They identify themselves as hardcore (or their fans do that for them) therefore the wii has to be branded as casual of kiddy. It has to be the enemy of sorts.
It's a manner of group identity.

The only reason why Ninty make hardcore games as we think we are was because "to please the fans" thats why Treasure made S&P 2 even Nintendo thinks it will be  a niche title and it wouldnt sell that much as whats happening right now. I moved on with the casual core thing though, and I dont care about SMG 2 and Metroid that much

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

maybe they can win over the hardcore crowed but come on we all know they are gonna delay at least one of those to next year, zelda for wii i think

It just so happens that metroid, mario, and zelda are among nintendo's highest rated franchises. That's why the media like them, as do gamers. They're the best that nintendo make.

No. Nothing they do will change any media journalist's mind, they are set in stone. And by bashing the WIi repeatedly (especially in the case of highly anticipated titles), they get more and more approval from what they view as their main audience, the HD RULEZ crowd.

Currently Playing: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Professor Layton and the Curious Village

Anticipating: Xenoblade, The Last Story, Mario Kart 7, Rayman Origins, Zelda SS, Crush3D, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, MGS:Snake Eater 3DS, RE:Revelations, Time Travellers, Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Luigi's Mansion 2, MH TriG, DQ Monsters, Heroes of Ruin

Hopefully not, if they started to like the Wii and Nintendo I'd be very scared

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

the media will not like the wii till they release a wii hd, and starts money hating 3rd party devs to make games for it.

and since nintendo will never do that, the gaming media will always hate it no matter what.

Well, let me put it better then. Metroid Prime consolidated itself in the last few years as the "way Metroid should be". A third person shooter Metroid won't recall the good times of Super Metroid and such. Instead, reviewers will say it ressembles Ninja Gaiden no matter what, and that Retro Studios is more important to Metroid than Bungie to Halo. The game will relatively flop (sell less than a million) giving a extra reason to gaming media to poke on. Like, "not even Nintendo franchises sell well anymore".
Super Mario Galaxy 2 will bring Yoshi back, oh, nice and good. But still Nintendo said it will be less story-oriented, so that's a reason for "casual" accusations. If there is anything worse than in SMG, even the smallest thing, the game will be bashed, and Nintendo will face accusations of "selling out" and not giving Wii owners "what they promised when they bought the console".
Zelda, well, I've said everything I had to say. We'll have to wait and see.

Are you serious?

My sentiments exactly.

Oh, it's easy for them. No matter how good the game is, they can always A: Criticize it simply for being on the Wii, and therefore having missed opportunities for HD graphics, true surround sound, and proper online play (despite the fact that none of these franchises lean that way), and B: Criticize it for superfluous waggle (which Zelda might escape, if it's some awe-inspiring Motion Plus stuff)

One thing we know for sure, is that people will complain about Nintendo's E3 2010. After the reaction from 09 was scarcely less negative than that of 08 (despite the fact that 09 blew 08 out of the water and into the sky), i think there's literally nothing Nintendo could do to "win" an E3 in terms of hype anymore, since the media will take the wind out of their sails.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think it's going to work. If they can't, get ready for a Wii 2 soon.

What the media thinks is not that important, they need profit (and pleasing the fans and casual can help that).

BUT: Motion+ is going to save us from the mindless waggling. Hopefully, we'll be able to control Master Sword 1:1 .
