Forums - Nintendo - Could Nintendo win over the gaming media with SMG2 Zelda Metroid:OM in 2010

Just a thought I had. we all know that the gaming media doesn't think overly highly of Nintendo. I'm not using the word bias here, partially because I dont want to start an off topic flamewar, and partially because Im nt sure it is true. But lets face it, the gaming media don't generally like Nintendo games, with the exception of 3 series...

3d Mario platformers

main series Zelda

Metroid

2010 will see the release of SMG2 in the first half, Metroid: Other M in the 2nd half, and it might see the release of the Wii's first Zelda game, ignoring spinoffs and VC/ports.

If Nintendo do release all three of these games in 2010, can you see the media keeping up their trashtalking of the Wii? or will there be a change?

Metroid... that's not as popular as some think. SMG2 is a sequel... Zelda, that's what we've been waiting for. It looks like it will be incredible and innovative, but again, Miyamoto said TP would be the best Zelda ever...

haxxiy - I'm not talking about popular games. The Wii has plenty of them, I hear Wii Sports is quite popular :P I'm talking about games that the gaming media will like.

As for the media not liking SMG2 because it's a sequel, the media love sequels. The less time since the previous game the more they love them

Well, let me put it better then. Metroid Prime consolidated itself in the last few years as the "way Metroid should be". A third person shooter Metroid won't recall the good times of Super Metroid and such. Instead, reviewers will say it ressembles Ninja Gaiden no matter what, and that Retro Studios is more important to Metroid than Bungie to Halo. The game will relatively flop (sell less than a million) giving a extra reason to gaming media to poke on. Like, "not even Nintendo franchises sell well anymore".
Super Mario Galaxy 2 will bring Yoshi back, oh, nice and good. But still Nintendo said it will be less story-oriented, so that's a reason for "casual" accusations. If there is anything worse than in SMG, even the smallest thing, the game will be bashed, and Nintendo will face accusations of "selling out" and not giving Wii owners "what they promised when they bought the console".
Zelda, well, I've said everything I had to say. We'll have to wait and see.

@ Metroid comments, perhaps you are right. I know I would be happier if team Ninja kept their childish, immature ways out of Metroid. But I suspect game reviewers will love that. As you say, we shall have to wait and see.

Wait, so they're getting rid of the shitty and overly long story cutscenes in SMG2? Huzzah!!I doubt reviewers will criticise it for that, less time talking = more time stomping on goombas!

That was mainly the director who left the company.

I don't think they care about them anymore, whatever they do it always not good enough.

The only ones they need to please are thier fans and that's what they do.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

Unless it's throwing money at games and systems. That's about the only thing they will accept, because it's what the other systems are doing.

If Ninty will win over gaming it certainly not in the games that mentioned in the title. If I want to share my opinion I want a sequel for Wii Music with different title. Wii Music have great potential if the game have content.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

The image of the wii is set in stone for these people. They identify themselves as hardcore (or their fans do that for them) therefore the wii has to be branded as casual of kiddy. It has to be the enemy of sorts.
It's a manner of group identity.
