Forums - Microsoft - How can Xbox Live maintain its greatness?

I just want them to focus less on shit like Netflix and more on improving the online quality. I mean yeah its great to have netflix and all that but I'd rather have an online service that never lags or cuts out then be able to watch movies that I can just as easily rent.

I feel the other way around. I love using my 360 to watch movies. Beforehand, I waited for movies. Never really used the streaming in the browser. Now? That's all changed. I have actually played Netflix videos approximately 75 percent of the time, 25 percent gaming.

The easiest thing to do? Ignore it. I have had much more difficulty finding games on PSN to play than on LIVE.

1.) I would like a gift system. A lot of the time I will play a new game and I want to play it with my friends but the simply don't have the money or the points to buy the game. If I could gift Microsoft points or games to my friends that would be amazing. It would also be a great way to get rid of those random pesky amount of Microsoft Points you just can't seem to get rid of due to the odd number.

2.) Upcoming Games section. Xbox.com has it, why not the dashboard. I would love for their to be a section on the game marketplace for Upcoming Games or something like that. If people could see what games are coming in the future for the 360 without having to prior know about the game or look it up online I think it would really make people really appreciate the 360 more and help boost sales of games a little. This goes for both retail and arcade games

Part 2 coming soon...

@madskills
glad you found your prefered system.

some posts ago you were saying its easy to find yearly Live subscribtions for around 30$. And Ps3boys are the only one argueing with 50$.

Im guessing you live in US? Cant think of any offer for Eu citizens below 40€ via www/ 50€ in store.

40€ equals 60$.

Could you be so nice and tell me a site where i (Austrian Citizen) can buy 1Year Live for 30$ incl shipping?

All im trying to say is: the 50 bucks are far more reasonable than u think they are. plz proof me wrong, i would appreciate it.

i don't think microsoft has to worry too much about "maintaining live's greatness" this gen 'cause as others have stated most people pay for live 'cause
their friend's are on it. maybe next gen MS will have to do "maintenance".

Interesting. Can you use LIVE cards sold in the U.S.? Is there a difference?

Usually, you can find them on eBay - they sell fast - and the lister will e-mail you the code. That's what I have had done for a few years.

Microsoft always has some substantial update to Xbox Live every year, that's one of the reasons why I don't mind buying it, because it's always getting better. This year we've gotten Netflix improvements, Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, and the 1080p streaming from the Zune Marketplace. Doing these sort of updates is Microsoft's forte, in that they'll go and try to partner up with all sorts of different companies to make the service more appealing.

Microsoft has something up it's sleeves regarding Xbox Live ONLY that they'll be announcing soon...i just have a gut feeling.

I agree and can't wait for what comes out next, but hopefully its a feature that'll persuade us to keep paying for it. I love the online and will keep paying but it needs to update with REAL exclusive features so that people can just lean on the Xbox for it. Look at Netflix. What good is it now knowing that another console pays nothing for it while Gold is necessary for Xbox users. I do like that picture in picture idea commented earlier. MS needs to stop claiming exclusivity to games and online features that are really timed exclusive cause in the end, us consumers get screwed u know

Hmm, very good point, and it's also up to the companies themselves. Like Netflix...they already knew they'd be bringing Netflix to other consoles from the begining, and the CEO expressed this in an interview about 2 months ago now. The Xbox360 was just the launching platform. So in a way, it's a gift and a curse to be an Xbox360 console, because companies gravitate toward it initially to have a large install base, and they know they'll profit, it's also a great console to gauge consumer reception. However, if it's a success, then it's unto another console for more results. I personally don't have a problem with this, but it's nice to know where the REAL benefit comes from with Xbox Live, and why i'm paying $35-$40, each year for it...in my eyes, that benefit is growing thinner, and thinner very quickly.
