Forums - Microsoft - How can Xbox Live maintain its greatness?

I love the Xbox 360 and own it and 60+ games so i am in no way trolling. I just hate the fact that most things are unexclusive, even after being teased as exclusive like Netflix. I pay for live and love it. When i put my PS3 on it kind of feels incomplete cause im used to party chat and all that other good stuff, but i do recognize that its catching on and also maintaining its Free status. I feel that Microsoft should provide exclusive console content to bring in new customers. To me, i prefer live, but to a new customer picking a new console it'll likely seem more appealing to get the PS3 cause of its Free status.

Since cross game chat and invite is most likely to be on PSN just as netflx will, and facebook + twitter apps arent that appealing to people with phones and PCs that can access them, what can MS bring us to seperate the free psn from the 50 dollar Live. Id say put something REALLY EXCLUSIVE to just he xbox and not an alternate version of a website like facebook or just make it free. Any thoughts from you guys?

Halo: Reach?

MMORPG with a storyline, an ending, and a $1,000,000 prize for whoever deals the deathblow to the final boss. Make it last for one year, and the storyline and environment changes as time goes on. Mini-prizes for users who accomplish certain goals, too. And Micro Transactions to make the whole experience profitable.

I have been on LIVE for 5 years. Gold member - and will hit 6 years next year. I enjoy it more now than when I got it with my original Xbox.

That said, Netflix on the PS3 is not an end-all. Even the Netflix chief said the disc was a workaround until they figure out something that doesn't use Silverlight. No, thanks. While I did order the PS3 disc to play around with Netflix, I would rather have Netflix on a console without major kinks.

I will keep paying for LIVE until I get tired of it. And I only pay $30 a year - barely $3 a month. That's a trip to Starbucks, a burger at Steak and Shake or a gallon of Premium.

I don't really know what else they can put up.. But.. My guess is, Natal will be the key.. When Natal comes out, the dashboard is probably going to get another upgrade, and you can video chat without the use of headset or webcam, but simply do everything with natal since it has voice recognition and is basically also a camera. To use those features you would need to be Gold, and I think they will make online gaming for Silver users free.. But they won't get party chat etc.

I think all the facebook stuff seems useless now, but Microsoft is simply adding more features for when they make online multi-player gaming available for Silver users, there will still be enough people that want to pay for Gold. And since PSN is basically copying everything Xbox Live does, Microsoft has no choice but to throw Natal in the mix and make it do something for Gold that PSN could never do.. I wish them luck..

Yeah. I was brainstorming, and I couldn't really come up with anything, either. MS already has pretty much everything imaginable on XBL, already. Maybe some kind of phenomenon that crosses over into the real world (like Pokemon), but things like that aren't planned. They just happen.

i just hope they put a web browser on live .

End of 2012 prediction:

xbox 360 : 73-75 million  playstation 3 : 72-74 million  wii : 104-105 million

Most hyped for :

Bioshock: infinte, The Last Of Us, Alan Wake's American Nightmare and Agent

I dunno. I thought about that. A browser is a decent novelty (I'm on the Wii right now!), but who has internet and no PC? It's like adding a DVD player to a Wii. Sure, it'd be nice, but who'd really need it?

Not unless it's a good one. although, I suspect it would be based off of IE8...so no, I'll stick with my computer for browsing the web.

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

The charging for Xbox Live Gold thing is working for now but in the next generation, if Sony doesn't screw up out the gate like they did the beginning of this generation, the XBL Gold subscription fee is going to turn people off. People pay for live because they have to (if they want to play with their friends on 360). If 1) Sony doesn't take too long to release the PS4 2) Releases it at the same price point as the NextBox and 3) Makes their PS4 easy to develop for so as to encourage third-party development, then the PS4 will win favor over the NextBox unless MS stops charging for live. Like it was said in another thread. People don't pay for live gold because of its better features. They pay for it because they have to (if they want to play with their friends. Who are more likely to own a 360 in North America). Though MS doesn't have to make all of xbox live gold free to get the upper hand next generation. Just the online multiplayer and the other features that PSN also has. The features that XBL Gold has that PSN doesn't, XBL can charge for those.
