Forums - Gaming - Just purchased a Sega Genesis - any games to look for?

I just ebayed a Genesis, and to be honest I am kinda stoked. It has been a while since I have made a retro gaming purchase. I never had one as a kid and was always curious about the console. Also, my Wii is in the shop so I could use a distraction while I wait.

The auction came with 11 games:

Sonic The Hedgehog 2~, Ms. Pac Man,  Mortal Kombat II, Marvel Comics: Maximum Carnage~

~Desert Strike~ (Qty: 2), Golden Axe~ (no case), The Lion King, Taz In Escape From Mars~

~Tiny Toon Adventures: Busters Hidden Treasure, Goofy's Historical History Tour~

I am watching a few videogame lots for Genesis games, but are there any singles I should look for specifically?

And for some reason pasting from the ebay listing changed my font color.

If you like RPGs, you should definitely get Phantasy Star IV.

Strangely, as much as people hated on the Sega CD, all the games I enjoyed most from the Genesis era, were on the Sega CD (Dark Wizard and Lunar immediately spring to mind).

Might and Magic (by EA) had a couple of RPGs out on the genesis I think...damn if I can remember the names though.

Ecco the Dolphin, Kid Chameleon, Quackshot

Phantasy Star II & IV, Shining Force II, Shining in the darkness, Crusader of Senty, Story of Thor, Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Heady, Revenge of Shinobi, Ghouls & Ghosts, streets of Rage/bare knuckle,

There are probably a lot more but can't think too much right now got a new game to play ^o^

Beyond Oasis (Zelda-clone, a good one), Herzog Zwei (granddady of RTS games, go for multiplayer only), Pocahontas (supposed to be a girly game, but it's beatifully drawn action-adventure game, though a bit short and easy).

I am a fan of the old rpgs so I will keep those in mind. Genres have changed so much it is difficult to say what I enjoy in terms of the '90s.

I played a lot of platformers and rpgs back then, but I am willing to consider any game from any genre if it holds up well.

Look for Castlevania Bloodlines if you want a great hard game.

any sonic games, i liked a game called puggsy, it might be a be a bit kiddy though. not sure haven't played it in ages. Micky mouse casle of illusion, micky mouse world of illusion and quackshot are all good games oh and columns is good if you like puzzle games. James Pond 2 is fun as well and so is ristar.

I see you've got taz escapes from mars that game is hard and frustrated me a lot as a kid

sorry this post is quite messing kept finishing it and then remembering games i had forgot.

I've been hinting at my girlfriend for about a month now that I want a Sega Megadrive for Christmas, I hope she picks up on the hints (Or just reads this lol).

But yeah, get Phantasy Star IV, you can't go wrong with that.
