Forums - Gaming - Can games get even more violent in the future?

Grand Theft Auto 3 raised the bar with random civilian killing. God of War 1 and 2 showed us creative ways of killing things. Now we have a game like God of War 3, perhaps the most violent looking game so far ever made (I mean, come on.. the guy ripped someone's head off with his bear hands, in all HD glory, with all the sinews and muscle tissue visibly ripping..), coming in March. But it is very early in this console generation.

My question is, do we have a lot more violence to go? Are we going to see games that are even more violent than what we have so far? Are we going to see pure carnage and destruction in a game such that almost every country is going to ban it?

Once further developments in haptic technology and autostereoscopy come in to play then yes, computer games are going to get to the point where the violence is realistic. Maybe not necessarily *more* violent, but definitely more realistic.

Up the gore a bit, I want to see intestines flying out, eye gulging, exposed rips and leg bones, etc.

Pixel Art can be fun.

It doesn't seem games can get any more violent then the original manhunt.

In God of War 4, Kratos will violently rape an armless cyclops. It will be the single most horrific thing shown at E3 2012.

I think they can in terms of the way we interact with the characters. Pressing a button and ripping a guys head of is one thing, but after things like natal come out you could do it with your actual bare hands!

It wont be hardcore enough until you have to eat the bodies of your victims in every game to refill your life. Mario will be tripping shrooms and eating bowser out of bowser's own shell!!!

In the future you will be able to dismember any charachter physicaly correct. You will be able to make a hole in his belly and the guts will come out. You will be able to make holes with a drill in the people but you can make the hole deeper or just the first skin layers etc.I dont know if they will restrict it but if not you will be able to do everything the enemys will be filled with Organs and bones etc and you will have the oportunity to destroy the bodys not always in the same way but they will react to your action. If you cut him for example an Z on his Body there will be a Z if you shoot him in the knee his knee will be crushed he wont be able to walk but still not dead. You can make Games a lot crueler. It will be much more realistic. The only barrier I can see is if the society will be against it. But if there will be a big market and the society will accept it then I dont see a reason why they should stop it.

You can make those scenes so shocking. Begging Characters are nothing new but if they act really good.It is still mild nowadays. Of course there is a lot Brutality in the Games but everything is so artificial. I am sure you could make games which make people puke. And kids in age of 10 will start to cry. Look at movies there are so extremly disgusting scenes just saw here on the forum where A Woman (Annie ?) took a sledgehammer and destroyed her husbands feet. And as long as games cant shock you like such a scene its still mild.

I dont think its a good thing but your question was can it be even more brutal then today. And the answer is definetly yes.

That's "Misery", where Annie Wilkes crushed Paul Sheldon's feet. Awesome movies. One of my all time favorites! I even went back and read the book.

LOL.

That would be the day I buy a Nintendo console again. Actually, when you think about it, maybe Mario has been tripping shrooms all this time, what with him getting bigger all of a sudden...
