Forums - Nintendo - Maelstrom disturbingly positive about Iwata admitting Wii sales stalled

This thread isn't about Iwata's comments, but about what Maelstrom is saying.

I suggest you click the link before commenting, because the comments on this post are my own thoughts, not Maelstrom's.

It seems to be that he's glad Nintendo realizes their game plan last year didn't work and is moving on to the games he feels sells to the mainstream better (which includes Punch Out).

Although I wouldn't classify Wii Music and Animal Crossing as USG as much as just lacking in appealing content (the former in too few songs and the latter in apparently too much of the same).

And I also agree that high production values do not make a better game. The game has to be good, with those just a bonus (or even a hinderance when it jacks up the price of minor games).

It's not what you think.

So Maelstrom is back to singing the old glory songs, eh?

Not that either, and you should read the link rather than make assumptions.

Iwata already apologized for the lack of innovative titles that caused the down turn in sales, and the lack of more good games, what else is there to say? Only speculation remains.

Listen

I have grown a distaste for Maelstrom over time. I understand asking people to read the links, but how about a brief?

I'm in the same boat, Maelstrom threads are becoming quite annoying and pointless in many ways.

Short, short version, he's not going "Nintendo are idiots for not making awesome games!", nor is he going "Nintendo will crush them all under the weight of the blue ocean!".

He's basically going (and I want to make it clear this is a summary, not a quote) "It's good Nintendo is copping to their games not being enough last holiday, and they should keep up what they are doing with games like NSMB Wii, and use the smaller production requirements of the Wii to make even more awesome games."

"Singing the old glory songs" was hyperbole, that (being "good that they learned a lesson") is actually what I assumed he said.

Thank you for summarizing, you are a peach.
