@avinash

no your tone & both responses seemed obvious.....your sig also tells me you may be unwilling to believe that

A TEKKEN game is releasing next week, PS3 outselling wii next week shouldn't even be debatable unless the Tekken franchise has literally gone to the dogs in terms of hype/sales.

There is no way to get tone off a forum post, you can imagine it, but that's it Tekken has declined, check the sales history on VGC My sig is not a relevant argument as it has remained unchanged for more than a year

Tekken 4 sold 3.31 Million

Tekken 5 sold 3.66 Million

Owned, Tekken 4 sold .34 million in japan, and Tekken 5 sold only .32. tekken dark only .12 You lose

Oh my, a measley .3 difference, what ever will the series do? Give me a break dude, you're just grasping at straws as usual.

and the PSP version declined even more, so its not grasping at straws, there is evidnece of decline

* F_A_C_E_P_A_L_M *

Listen to your comparison for a sec, go outside and take in some fresh air, then think about HARD about your FAULTY logic here.

How is it faulty, the fact that its on Handheld vs. console is irrelevant, many titles sell much more on handheld than console, so the idea that a handheld selling less being reasonable is not supported

It's faulty bud, no two ways about it. The markets aren't alike, no matter which of the two devices in question has the higher sales. They sell to a different group of gamers.

And your support of that?

PS3 gamers buy the same way PSP buyers do?

DS buyers buy the same way Wii buyers do?

Your logic is FLAWED.

You're asking, but not showing, how do you know that if the game appeared on both handheld and console with same level of quality, features and appeal, that sales would not be similar? If you can show me that, then you can say that they are not comparable.

So let me get this straight, by your definition, unless NSMBWii sells higher than its DS predecessor, it is consider to be in decline???

Don't you take things like install base, demography and how suitable a game is for the home/portable market into account at all? Is Monster Hunter also in decline because the Wii version will not sell anywhere near the PSP version?

Yep Avinash thinks Monster Hunter obviously failed as it sold less on the Wii than on the PSP..

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

^Actually yeah Monster Hunter was a failure on Wii compared to the PSP versions.

No all that other stuff is crap, if the marker considers a game good, then it will sell, if not then it won't, the highest selling 2D mario's were on consoles, so the idea that NSMB Wii can't outsell the DS version due to demographics and suitability is stupid, if it doesn't outsell the DS version, then it'll be because the market didn't consider it as good at the DS version

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

If both Famitsu and Media Create say PS3 is above Wii, it is because it is. No questions asked here, they track far more stores and retailers than VGC could ever have.
Hardware numbers this week were off in a weird way, which is very strange, because (I assume) VCG usually waits for Famitsu and MC to correct it's numbers before posting them.

It's not about failure because of a bad transition to console to handheld or vice versa.
You were generalizing the decline of the whole franchise because an iteration didn't perform aswell on a different platform.
And you were using that assumption as evidence as to why the PS3 version wont sell.

Here's another analogy.
GT psp didn't do aswell as the older GT's.
Does that mean that the franchise is in decline?
Not necessarily.
Does it mean the console GT version will not create a hardware bump or beat GT4 sales?
Seems unlikely considering how much people are anticipating it's release.

As you can see, it's an illogical fallacy to assume that it's an "end all" indicator of future sales or a decline in the franchise in general.

Now I'm not saying that Tekken 6 will sell boat loads considering into account the lack of hype for the game, but I doubt PSP sales for one iteration of the game is a good base to build upon for your argument.

Actually, it's not such a bad comparison, considering that Japan has become a lot more handheld centered in the past few years. I mean, the only things I can draw from the drop in sales from the consoles to the PSP is that it either must really suck or the Tekken series just isn't what it used to be [in Japan].

I think you should take your own advice here.

Ah, but i'm not ust using the PSP version, the PSP version is part of a trend, Tekken 5 sold less than 4 and Dark sold less than 5, now might 6 sell more, sure, but if not, it'll just show that there is a downward trend
