Forums - Sony - HDMI cable died

So I'm playing uncharted 2 and my hdmi cable just dies.  So I figure I'll just plug in the composite cables and finish the final chapter of the game.

I INSTANTLY SHUT THE GAME OFF THE MINUTE I SAW THE GAME VIA COMPOSITE CABLES.

It literally looked like a super nintendo game, it was so bad.

So long story short, well I guess short story short, If you are playing your ps3 on a HD television with composite cables without an excuse whatsoever....

KILL YOURSELF.       or buy a damn hdmi cable.

It's pretty bad. We have a PS3 at work, and playing Rock Band on it was hard. Somebody went to Best Buy on lunch and bought an HDMI cable later that day though.

Haha thats funny, but most SNES games don't really age. They actually still look pretty good.

how exactly does an HDMi cable die? All it does is pass information. I would get a spare cable ASAP, and make sure the HDMi port on your PS3 or TV is what didn't break.

You do know that composite is only going to be 480i. You can use component cables and get a 720p signal which is +95% of what most games run their resolution on.

Also, I'm sorry that Uncharted is only worth playing because of the graphics.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

True, but you still get the analogue signal degradation and interference problems with component (even worse with composite) regardless of resolution, which is something that gloriously digital HDMI doesn't suffer.

As for your U2 comment, if you have two options, play a great game with great graphics, or play a great game with crap graphics, which would you pick. Crap graphics just to save $10 over the life of your PS3?

For a 6ft run, you don't get much degradation at all and most people won't notice a difference. I'd still get HDMI as it is the same price.

I would play the game and enjoy it now and pick up another cable at my next earliest convenience. I happen to play the PS3 over at my in-laws on a SD TV and a SD TV would never stop me from enjoying a good game.
